Doesn’t open up until June 15 We don’t have a closed season. You can fish for lm and sm all year. between Dec. 1 thru June 14 it’s c & r only with artificial lures. You can measure, weigh, and photograph bass prior to releasing. On 6/6/2023 at 12:45 PM, AlabamaSpothunter said: Wow, that's BS. Either it's open for everyone, or it's closed for everyone. Super User A-Jay Posted June 8, 2023 Super User Posted June 8, 2023 I like MLF. But watching guys drive around 'Marking fish on beds' to come back to catch them tomorrow, is just weak. A-Jay 2 Quote

"Why don't they at least show the guys fighting to make the cut instead of dudes saying they are done fishing for the day" I've also found the first downside of Catch Weigh Release. I'd make the argument catching a spawning fish 2-3x in a short window is as stressful as live weigh ins. Quote

If anything, the Bass fishing around here has gotten better in the last 10 years. I was told holding all the tournaments during the spawn for the last 30 years was going to ruin it all together………. Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted June 8, 2023 Super User Posted June 8, 2023 I don't think tournaments hurt Bass populations, rather they make the fish much, much "smarter". Lay Lake has rocket scientist level Bass ? Quote

Thanks to Ray Scott and other pioneers in the sport who advocated catch and release and/or selective harvest, that threat did not materialize around here. We really owe a large debt to those people. 1 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted June 9, 2023 Super User Posted June 9, 2023 Why are the best lakes the ones with the most tournaments? Tournaments must make the fishing better. ? 1 1 Quote

Shows the prowess of his angling abilities. Quote
GReb Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 I know this is entirely false but as someone who’s never caught a smallie every time I watch these guys fish for smallmouth it looks so easy. They just find it visually and throw a worm down there and it bites immediately LOL. Quote

They are not going to show you the 45 min that the guy spent chucking that worm to the fish when it didn't bite. Quote

In general, SMs and Spots are just much more aggressive fish, I do believe they are easier to catch than LGMs, especially pure FLGMs. Quote

However, my experience with Florida Strain largemouth is pretty limited, so I can only compare smallmouth to Northern Strain largemouth. Quote

He’s pretty good. ? He’s in second place, 2 ounces behind the lead and needs a 5-07 to move into first. That’s amazing. 1 1 Quote

Sure seems like it. So do we think this would be a different story SMB weight wise if they were fishing in say, the end of July ? Bet those 4's would be 'worth' quite a bit more then . . .
