I have used fluorocarbon before and have not had this problem. Just re strung a spinning reel and keep getting a bird nest like a baitcaster. What do I do to stop this? I let the line out after second time behind the boat but this did not help. Suggestions

KVD L&L conditioner will do wonders.

Which flourocarbon are you using ? What lb test. What size reel?

Ya - just like with mono - you don't want to go over .010" diameter line on a 3000 size or smaller spinning reel...and I'd keep it to .008" max on a 500 or 1000.

So you're talking 8# BasiX or 10# InvixZ/Tatsu as your max line on 2000-3000 reels; 4# BasiX or 6# InvizX/Tatsu on any smaller reel.

seaguar red label

I stay away from Red Label and AbrazX...they're too 'springy' for my taste.

Want an inexpensive FC that works better?  I tried BasiX last year and was impressed. This year I'm using it on two rigs.

Too much line on reel, not feathering line, letting It continue to roll off spool after end of cast, line twist. All possibilities.

I know it's just me but no matter what brand or size line I use on a spinning reel it's gonna birds nest on me.  For years I wouldn't touch a spinning reel until I saw guys use braid with a fluro leader and tried it myself and Bingo...now I use a spinning reel as much as a baitcaster.

It’s not just you. I switched to braid to a long fluoro leader and never looked back.

Never say never but… I will NEVER use a spinning reel with any line other than braid every again!

Just came apon this thread and it rekindled the nightmares of straight fluorocarbon on spinning. ?

Braid to leader will prevent profanity.

I’ve got 8 lb seaguar basix fluoro on a spinning reel and don’t use any special juice. It works fine, much easier than when I put braid on there

Even though I like Seaguar FCs, I would not use Red Label on spinning gear. In fact, it would probably be my last choice. 6 or 8lb Invizx would work just fine. I currently have braid with leader, FC, and mono on my spinning gear. Each has their own purpose.

Why using straight fluorocarbon on a spinning rod, any specific reason? If you HAVE to use Fluoro, use a smaller line....10lb is pretty thick and Seaguar (as people say) is VERY springy. It wants to fly off the spool.

If you want a MUCH better experience with your spinning setup, go 20lb braid to a 10-12lb Fluoro leader with an FG or Alberto knot to connect. These knots fly through the eyelets with NO problem, so don't worry about casting it. Just don't let the knot make its way back to the reel. I measure my leader by reeling up the line to my casting length (about 10") and make sure the FG/Alberto is NOT in the reel. This should be good, it ends up about 6ft or so of leader....I will adjust from there.

Try the braid setup before you commit to buying any more Fluoro, don't waste your money on spool up full fluoro unless there is a specific reason. Maybe try some mono since it cheaper.

Yup. Why deal with the hassle of straight fluoro? Alberto knot takes about 5 minutes to learn how to tie, never fails, and if you want the experience of straight fluoro without the hassle, just tie a 15- or 20- ft leader. But know that occasionally that can be a bit springy. I’ve found it’s fine in lakes but less so on rivers where I am fighting current and any bit of line management issue becomes magnified. Then I go with a short leader (3 ft or so). Also: you can afford to get a higher grade of fluoro because it lasts so much longer when you are just using it for leader. Invizx is my fav.

Now, having said all that… as noted in another thread… I’ve been using straight braid on both spinners and BC a lot more lately!! Not seeing a whole lot of difference in murky water. Just sayin…
