What do you generally find to be the best way to add weight to a glide bait to keep it from coming out of the water?

In all the years I've been throwing swimbaits, and glide type baits, I have Never needed to change anything on these baits. All this talk about changing out hooks ect. is IMHO not needed. What you do need is Time, learn how to control your baits. Big glide will pull big fish from deep water if fished properly.

No amount of changing hooks or split rings or gear ratio's is going to make up for bad technique.

I mean, just watch the bait.

I find glide baits are most effective when they're almost suspending.  They seem to work best when you can pause them and let them hang out there.  If they sink more than a half foot a second, they're too heavy, in my opinion.

It's not like a jerkbait where the action is erratic.  Glide baits seem to hypnotize fish with slow, gradual, subtle movements.  Often times I'll have a fish follow it back all the way to the boat without noticing I'm there until the last second.  Then I'll cast it back out, or another lure, and usually get the bite.  Often times, they work better for luring bass out and getting them in the mood than for getting a reaction bite on the first cast.

Bigger hooks often works. My favorite glide you can change the sink rate big time by upsizing or downsizing the hooks.  It’s floating glide so I can make it slow sink or a really high floating glide

Why not split rings

I actually agree with this after having fished it a few times now, as the biggest strikes seem to come on the pause and the entire appeal of these baits is how controlled and subdued the action is. We all know the biggest fish chase the least, and yes I actually thought of the similarity to a jerk bait as well.

I usually add 2-3x hooks and up size them also if possible on the bait. Also bigger split rings. If that's not an option then I will use board weights on the belly. But I like my glides in XSS because I work mine painfully slow anyways.

Those are big split rings. I just like having hook options. Same hook. He uses round bend 1s so using round bend 1/0s will make it slow sink
