Smirak Posted June 5, 2023 Posted June 5, 2023 I sight fished three fish on consecutive casts this weekend on a ned…found a bluegill bed, threw on top and got big mama. Threw again and got a small dink bass. Last throw another small dink bass. dragged it in front of the larger bass in the area (probably around two lbs or so) and he didn’t even flinch. Quote

Pays for the other 10 bags of regular stuff by the time you finish one bag of elaztech. I wish bro, I could use a good 2 week detox. All my shakes will just add some action to my ned. I bet there's some fat mexican bass bagged on lilneds Fish don’t tear up the worms, rocks steal them. That’s another reason I don’t use them, literally everyone else throws them most of the time. I like to use something they don’t see all day Quote

It was pretty steady catching all daylong once I figured out what bait they wanted. 1 Quote
Super User Bird Posted June 5, 2023 Super User Posted June 5, 2023 This may be very unsettling to the OP but I do better with Drop-shot and Jackall flickShake for finesse fishing........my apologies ? 1 1 Quote

I bet yours was also not the real thing. There's unwritten rules about weights and plastics when referencing these setups. 1 5 Quote
Obi_Wan Posted June 6, 2023 Posted June 6, 2023 Just caught my personal best smallie in Canada on a Ned. 1/16 oz Bass pro head with a 3” Charlie Brewer worm. Caught lots of 3+ lb smallies on Neds and Tubes. Caught a couple of Walleye on them too. 2 Quote

I know now with the “bubba shot” and a few other iterations, there’s more than 1 accepted Dropshot application but I can assure you I am totally old school and have fished the same rig for 40 years. The only thing that changes is the bait I choose. 7 Foot CastAway Skeleton Spinning Rod medium/fast. Quality spinning reel in 2000 or 2500 size 8lb BPS Excel mono. #1 Gamakatsu EWG Hook. 1/4 oz QuickDrop Dropshot Weight Plastics have been varied and change over the years but high on list is the Yamamoto Shad Shape Worm and my old school bait a Yamamoto Pro Senko both rigged Texas. ? 3 Quote

I throw some wire on a jighead with a blade or two or 3, top it off with a paddletail on a screw lock and you're golden. It might be an unwritten rule that it's not a Texas rig, but I call it that ? For your information the following was inscribed in stone and revealed to Ned Kehde a millennia ago... THE NED COMMANDMENTS Thou shall have no other Lures before me. Thou shall not bear the likeness of a TuRD. Thou shall not take the name of ElaZtech in vain. Remember and keep TuRDsday Holy. Honor thy largemouth and smallmouth. Thou shall not powerfish. Thou shall not commit adultery, or use more than 1/10oz, same thing. Thou shall not steal, cuz thieves actually suck. Thou shall not bear false witness of thy fish size (yeah right!) Thou shall not covet your fishing buddy’s fancy, shiny, expensive new rod (ooh-la-la) 1 4 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted June 7, 2023 Super User Posted June 7, 2023 I was kind of underwhelmed with the Ned Rig when it started to become mainstream. Then I had a day when I couldn't get a bite, all except for the Ned Rig. After that, I was convinced it was going into my rotation of baits but more towards the bottom. Next I thought, I need a specific rod for this and dropshot so I picked up a NRX+ NRR. Finally, I discovered these two baits and my trip to the dark side was complete. 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted June 7, 2023 Super User Posted June 7, 2023 Now we have the Z-Man "Micro - Ned" (Ned Jr.) system for when you need to down - size from the standard Ned for pressured fish accustomed to the standard Ned ! Seriously , the new Micro Ned on tiny jig heads is for panfish (6' spinning L/F rod with 4 lb. FC line or #5 lb. braid + leader) . Great for bluegills . crappie and 1 lb. bass . 1 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted June 15, 2023 Super User Posted June 15, 2023 I'm done with mushroom head and their tiny gapped hooks . A ball head with a little larger hook keeps bass pinned better and a heck of a lot less expensive. 1 Quote
