Super User Darth-Baiter Posted June 1, 2023 Super User Posted June 1, 2023 i'm finally doing laundry. i wash all my fishing stuff separately so i line dry it all. i remember, the last two outings, i got totally krapped on by some water bird. another good reason to keep it apart from my wife's frilly things. i'm in a kayak, so with respect to a boat, i am a much smaller target, but holy heck if i am not bombed a lot. my kayak gets pooped on, me as well..or i get splashed. near misses are so common. haha. just a thought. so you boat guys get hammered?. oh, i hose the majority off in the back yard. 4 1 Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted June 1, 2023 Super User Posted June 1, 2023 We call cormorants sh—t birds and you learn to stay a good ways away from them when they take to the air. I was fishing a creek off the main lake in my area and there was a small cut to get back to a pond like area. Whilst fishing my way back there I spooked up a flock of Canadian geese. I watched them all take flight, I would estimate 15-20, slowly gain altitude and then bank back. When they got directly over me, a large number of them decided to use me as a target. There was goose poop dropping all around me. I can’t believe it wasn’t intentional. 1 7 1 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted June 1, 2023 Super User Posted June 1, 2023 They do it on purpose, you know. It's supposed to be good luck when a bird does that to you. And they definitely have a preference for shiny things. 1 Quote
Functional Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 never fishing....but walking to class one year I got targeted by a flock of geese. I was covered in green crap and the teacher said it was no excuse to miss class as I stood in front of him covered in those cobra chickens droppings. Had to sit there through a 2hr class. I still have green stains on that backpack to this day. 1 3 1 Quote
ironbjorn Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 I've never been pooped on by a bird while fishing, but if one more middle aged white woman calls a Heron an Eagle at a nature preserve I fish I might **** my own pants over the agony that has become the human race. (2 years in a row I've witnessed this...) 1 Quote
gunsinger Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 Not while fishing but once on a beach near Tampa, my daughter was the unfortunate recipient of some seagull luck. Caught her right in the neck. That cost me a piece of jewelry to make her feel better. ? 1 Quote
galyonj Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 Never been pooped on by a bird. I've had just about every substance a fish can excrete all over me at one time or another. Daggum white bass almost ruin a pair of shoes for me every time I fish the spawn. 1 1 Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 I saw a bird poop in a guy’s shoe one time. He took it off to dip his feet in the water and got a nasty surprise. Quote
Captain Phil Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 All the time! In South Florida they have huge flocks of Coots. I have seen flocks so big in Okeechobee it sounded like thunder when they take off. In the Everglades, they have a nasty habit of flying across the canals in front of your boat. Often they poop as they fly by. You would poop too if a 70 mph bass boat was bearing down on you! I once killed a coot by accident with my Gambler. I didn't know it until I saw it's legs sticking out from under my front seat. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted June 1, 2023 Global Moderator Posted June 1, 2023 I got crapped on by a cormorant once. I mean splattered from my chest to the bottom of my shorts. It smelled god awful, I took all the stuff out of my pockets and jumped in the water 7 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted June 1, 2023 Super User Posted June 1, 2023 Yup. Geese are buttholes. They absolutely do it on purpose. I've had 'em do it too many times for it to be accidental. I once saw a girl in a bikini get bombed by a heron. She was covered in that nasty crap head to toe, which then caused her to spew like a fountain. It was quite the awful sight. That was 40 years ago. I can see it in my mind like it happened yesterday. ? 7 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted June 1, 2023 Super User Posted June 1, 2023 The Canada geese around here drop poop like a carpet bombing run. But I’ve discovered that if a flock is heading towards me, if I put my hands up and wave they will actually change course. Don’t call me crazy until you try it, it really works! 3 Quote

I haven't been hit yet, but I've had it raining goose poo all around me several times. 1 Quote

They’ll divert instead of flying directly over you. Works like a charm. 1 1 Quote

They crap all over the place when they’re on land too. Golf courses, parks, yards, any grassy area is a magnet for them. A couple weeks ago I was launching at the lake and the grassy area had about a dozen geese. They weren’t really afraid of people either. I was walking by with my dog on the leash heading to my boat and a group of 4 people yelled to me “release the beast on those stupid geese!” So I did and Cosmo sent them soaring and squawking into the water. Everyone cheered and started clapping. Just now, Jar11591 said: Put your hands up and wave like you’re trying to get their attention. They’ll divert instead of flying directly over you.
