a couple of my slender friends, i notice they were not eating sugar.  they both told me they are Diabetic!!  i was blown away.

i'm not fat in the classic sense.  haha.  i am still very limber, and strong for my age.  not fat really.  i can still lay on the floor and get up off of it, without using my hands.  i got to thinking.  if my skinny buds are getting sick..i am doomed.  so i have been eating lots of veggies and in general making healthy food choices.  i already got off the booze train.

my fishing kayak friends are way younger than i am.  i can hang with duration and distance.   But i am going to eat better and heathier..and cheaper.

no more mid week workday lunches.  i dont care if the Tesla Charger is right next to an IN/OUT burger.  hahah..dangerous.

it starts TODAY.  oatmeal and salad packed for work.  (yuck - this is gonna be a tough adjust)

Seriously though, cutting booze is a great step. Keeps the weight off, helps you lose weight, lowers the risk of developing diabetes, and your immune system will function better. Among many other benefits.

I was the "fat kid" as a youngster...always seemed to be dieting or trying to lose weight.

Stopped drinking soda / caffeine in high school....felt better

Stopped fast food after college...felt better

Stopped eating wheat / gluten when wife had to for medical reasons about 5 years ago....felt better

Stopped eating processed foods about a year ago...felt better (lots of meat, vegies, fruits, nuts, whole foods)

Stopped eating foods with vegetable oils this winter...felt better

Have maybe one drink a month...feel better

Trying to cut out cheese (and do feel better), but it is SOOOOO GOOD!

Started walking the dogs ~2 miles every day...feel better

I'm going to be 56 this year. Thankful to be alive, and feeling good. Find your path.

I lost 130 pounds. I can’t honestly say I feel better. I also can’t say I would feel how I feel now without losing it. I do feel better about myself and I am more confident. Making changes is hard. Sometimes the benefit of the change isn’t noticed till years later. Anything you can do to better yourself you should do. You have no clue what the dividends might be.

Years ago my doctor told me to drink a glass of red wine every evening, I've kept him as my doctor ever since.

Being voted top 3 male specimen on my block of 12 here’s what I’d keep in mind.

Find something you can repeat. Eating raw eggs and grass and two hour workouts are great to sprinkle in. You can’t live like that. Trust me.
Only weigh yourself once a week..maybe. Not everyday. You’ll get discouraged, and it fluctuates to much to be an average.
Drink as much water as you possibly can. Then drink more. It really is jet fuel.
Replace any in between food otherwise known as snacks with fruit vegetables or both. Avocados are a gift straight from the beyond.
Have fun with it! If it’s miserable everyday after two months or so it’s not sustainable.
good luck!

I need to lose some weight my doctor at the VA wants me to also. They don’t want me to lose as much as I want though. I told them I want to get to my post coma weight which is also what I weighed post deployment 8years prior to being in coma. I would have to lose 50lbs or so to get to that weight they said just try and get down to 190-200 which is only 20lbs to lose.

Did a diet few years ago with fiancé and we lost weight and kept it off for a little bit but are now both the biggest we’ve ever been in our lives not huge by any means but just big.

good luck with yours

i rarely if ever step on a scale.

i just want to hold back any health complications.  every adult male on my dad's side died of cancer early, so my brother and i always lived life with that perspective.   being insulin resistance was never a blip on my radar.  yikes.  sneaky mofo, that one.

LOL I think most would agree with that.  Not to mention raw eggs could very likely make you sick because of salmonella.  I've been down that road.  Trust me, you don't want to experience it.

This is good advice.  Replacing beer, soda, and other sugary/unhealthy drinks with water will go a long ways.  I like those beverages just as much as the next guy but simply avoiding them other than on a infrequent basis really does shed some pounds on its own.

When I'm not fishing I follow this regimen to stay healthy.

Walk/jog 3.5 - 6 miles five times per week (I'll do this either before or after I go fishing)

Go to the gym three times a week and do squats, deadlifts, and bench presses.

Drink 1 gallon of water  day

I eat a big breakfast, moderate lunch, and a light dinner.

No processed foods/cheese/sugar/fast food/sweets (sometimes I'd kill for a donut but I stay strict about my eating habits)

I'm 71, retired, and do pretty much anything I want to do. I firmly believe that because of my physical condition I am still able to stand up in my boat and fish all day.

Sometimes it's just genetics.  I work out an hour a day, watch what I eat, stay relatively lean, hang out with former super models, and catch small fish... and was just blessed with a clogged widowmaker and my first stent in January. I'm the first male since our family trees were tracked to have made it as long as I have alive or without bypass surgery... Can't choose your lineage ~

Food is different for everyone, but restriction usually doesn't work over time. I make the trade of no /low carbs but as much protein and fat as I want. I'd give up pringles to be able to eat bacon or steak all day long. And I lost a bunch of weight and kept it off.

Nuts, steak, sausage, bacon, any green veggies, cheese, etc... doesn't really feel like a diet. But I have friends who don't feel good when they eat that way, and they are in the grilled salmon and rice /potatoes crowd, and probably never eat a steak.

Turns out if you eat like a diabetic, many of us feel better and stay lean.

I drink about 3 gallons of water a day in summer but eat everything that’s not nailed down. And if it is nailed down, I just use a claw hammer to pry the nail loose then eat it

I started a new diet. I took the advice of a dietician and removed all the bad foods from the house. They were delicious, but I gained 8 lbs.

I lost 10 lbs in the last week but I ate way more than normal. Camping in a swamp will do it! You have to drink about 5-7 gallons of water a day just for your legs to function. It happens every year on this trip, AC has made us all soft

Your weight and body type are inherited from your family along with the ailments that will kill you, like heart disease, alzheimers, etc.

I went on a diet six weeks ago and went from 205 down to 183 this morning.

I miss my candy, cokes, root beers, white flour, bread, ice cream, bakery items, wife's baking, french fries, and a lot of other things but heading towards my goal of 175 is worth it.

Keep up the good work. Telsa's blow up so I would order take out from that fast food resturant and not park close to a Telsa.

And after a while, you will not miss those bad foods. Not even think of them.

Most of the rest of the world operates without it.  Even modernized countries.  We're definitely spoiled here with air conditioning.

Im us all. AC made me soft. Nothing like mowing 20 lawns then walking into a 78° house ?. But then again I freeze all winter no matter how high the heat is up. So maybe I’m just a big baby lol

Oh I use it between jobs to “activate the chill” on my sweat soaked shirt. I love it

And of course at home . But when camping it’s crazy how much weight you can lose sweating
