Backlash issue with Fluorocarbon on baitcast

Hi! I recently purchased a new reel (SLX A 150) to match up my ST CROIX legend glass 7,2HM for chatterbaits. I figured that fluorocarbon was the best line for this application so I bought 12lbs test DAIWA Samurai to put in it. My problem is that when I cast I feel like my reel is always gonna backlash regardless of how much my brakes are tight throwing a half once jackhammer. I can't cast that far because I always need to stop my spool in the middle of the cast to avoid backlash. I did the spooling the right way in the same way the line was coming out of the spool trick but it did nothing. Do you any advice for me beginning in fluoro on baitcasts? I figured it was maybe the reel the problem? What would be a good reel for FC uses? I tought maybe getting the CHRONARCH MGL to solve my problems. Any help is appreciated!

IIRC that's a reel with centrifugal brakes.  They're probably all off.  Remove the side cover and look at them.   If they're locked toward the inside they're off.  Since your having trouble turn all of them on.....pull them out.  Turn them off as needed.

They are all clipped and "on" that's the problem 6 out of 6 are clipped and the reel still want to backlash

I'm fairly certain if they are 'clipped' they are off (upward position). The indent is to keep them stationary no? You would pull them out to be on (downward position) , this would allow them to freely move with the centrifugal motion of the spool. I don't have that reel but this would make sense to me.

You really want every other brake on.

Adjust the spool end cap tension knob with your lure tied on, loosen until the spool lets the lure fall and hit the ground without over running.

You shouldn’t be able to backlash severely with this setting.

Your casting motion needs to let the rod launch the lure, slow down the forward rod motion.

Now is the time to:train your thumb! Keep the thumb slightly above the free turning spool of line to smooth out any loops building up, then stop the spool slowly with light thumb pressure .

Practice until you achieve the casting distance you want.

Fluorocarbon line is dry and water proof, you need line additives to wet the line keeping the FC from springing off the spool. KVD is popular, I use Tangle Free, avoid Reel Magic.

Can't stress this enough - a well-trained thumb is probably the #1 preventative of backlashes.

I use KVD on everything but braid and don't plan on switching as it works quite well - and yes, avoid Reel Magic at all costs.

If they are clipped, they are off. If they are loose, they are on. They need to be unclipped.

Never done this. Ever. Have zero issues. Sounds like you have all the brakes off.

Reel Magic can negatively react with most reel gear grease and some reel light oils gumming them up. If you use Reel Magic be prepared to clean and lube often.
