Fuego for sure.  I'm an idiot though and use a 9:1 Zillion

Is it the black SLPworks custom zillion? I've been thinking about getting the custom body so I can murder out my zillion

Looking for the best froggin reel. need to have the following qualifications.

1. Handle 65lb braid easily and smoothly.

2. Cast lightweight hollow frogs a country mile.

3. Have enough power to pull fish out of heavy cover.

4. Lightweight and fast retrieve

5. Cost reasonable for quality reel.

Any thoughts? Thanks

What kind of fish are aiming with froggin under a 65lb line?

Just a hunch but I'm going with largemouth bass?

Wow, I use 30lb to fish for Giant Araipamas. Isn't that diameter a strong overkill?

I have more spendy reels, but so far my Feugo has worked just fine, with 50 lb Smackdown.

I'm running 40# 832 on my frogging rig...only rig I run 50# on is my heavy punching rig.

Yeah, if I'm fishing sparse cover or more open water, I drop down to 30 lb, which gives me a touch more distance.

I like shimano brakes better than daiwa brakes for frogging, but only for the extra few feet I can cast.  For techniques like skipping or shallower casts you can flip that sentiment.

No. Catching even a 4 pounder in lily pad fields loaded with arrowheads and water chestnut is a challenge for 30 lb braid. When the fish dives and wraps around a stalk or several stalks at the base of these plants, there's a good chance 30lb will pop. 40 lb is usually good enough if that happens with a fish of that weight, but maybe not if it's a 6-8 pound fish. 50lb braid is safe.

Same here. I fished a few spots in the past where even 50 was somewhat marginal.

I run a Cashion frog rod x-heavy, 30lb braid and I prefer the fast retrieve of the Abu Garcia Revo Rocket myself.

There is something about putting a frog in the back of areas, cruising through the strike zone, then skiing the bait back quickly while scanning for the next target.

Ditto

There are times that I leave my frog combo with 50# original PP on the deck and use the big stick with 80#.

Yeah’ I’ll lose a little distance but it’s really not that of any issue.
Some of the stuff I go frog hunting in especially on The Lake, ya gotta give it all you got to get her head up and out.

If you want a tiny frog reel, the coastal 80 would be a player (105yds/16lb mono).

Close quarters combat ?

My preferred choice is 65# but I ain't got none right now. The frog bite has been dismal this year.

I'm thinking since braid has crappy abrasion resistance, it's more about having a little more diameter than 30lb braid offers.

Theoretically a stronger reel than the Coastal 150 too.

I always use a fluorocarbon leader.

I still use an Ambassadeur 4600c4. can cast frogs with ease. more than enough power in the reel to get them up and out of the slop.
