Darkness covers up an angler's presence and most of all his mistakes!

I don't fish at night because I think they feed better, I fish at night because it's to stinking hot during the day.

I also do it because there’s no recreational boat traffic out at night.

I think when the water is clear and it’s hot out, night time fishing can be very productive. I generally have not had to resort to it recently, but I always used a black spinnerbait when I was out there at night. A big dark colored plastic worm would also be an option.

Sometimes the bugs are awful at night. A slight breeze helps mitigate that.

@gimruis

Bass do not morph into a new creature at night & neither do their food source.

I fish the same structure, with the same techniques as I do during the daytime.

If I'm on a productive pattern that includes a redbug worm you can bet your sweet bippy that I'll be throwing that worm after the sun sets!

I agree. The issue, at least for me, and what has been mentioned in this thread, is that I’m just not very good at detecting bites with a slower, finesse approach using plastics at night. I really just have not done enough of it.

I do think that the fish may avoid the direct hot sunlight during the day and look for shade or relief from that, whereas at night they may not necessarily be doing that.

weightless is really the only way to go or maybe 1/16oz weight

Have you considered a Zoom Horny Toad or Stanley Ribbit?

A Zoom UltraVibe Speed Worm or Craw, 1/8 weight, with the hook of your choice.

I throw white!

Reel em on top

Night fishing in SoCal is limited to 1 time a month maybe 2 if you fish a night tournament. The bass are not conditioned to boats running around at night and tend to more aggressive predators.

We get 6 hours to fish starting about 1/2 hour before dusk fishing the late evening bite. The 1st hour of total darkness tends to slow down leaving about 3 hours of night fishing.

I had good results using crawdad color deep diving crank baits, rat lures waked along reed walls, always use my hair jigs with 4” pork trailers and worms between 7 1/2” to 13” T-rigged with bullet weight and glass bead same as day time.

total baroness I prefer black with blue neon soft plastics.

I am old school line feeler to detect strikes night or day.

If using a Senko type stick worm go up to larger size 6” to 7” it’s easier to detect strikes when the bass has a mouth full of soft plastic.

Everybody that replied is pulling your leg. Plastics, especially big worms at night simply don't work.?

10” dark worms and black buzzbaits is what I used when I night fished.
Our club used to have a night tournament every year on East Lake Toho in Central Florida.  Clear water lake.  I used those 2 baits to win it one year but they produced fish every year. I don’t fish at night anymore though.

I do a lot of bottom fishing for a variety of fish. Salt and fresh.  I’m a feeler. I can feel what my T rig is doing on bottom. You’ll feel the bite. I love fishing T rigs at night. Always creature and craw baits though. Also jigs at night work very well to

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but by the time I'm seeing the line move, I'm late with my hook set. Either a swing and a miss or a gut hook. I rely far more on feel. And I only fish during daylight.

I slow twitch on the bottom. Especially in clean bottom gravel bottom. Not places loaded with weeds. I fish em in deeper cleaner ponds.
