Hi guys. New to the forum but I've been browsing for quite a while. I've always wanted to get into custom rod building but man it just sounds like it's so much work (to get really really good at it) like reaming, getting the right diameters to not have to use inserts to get a true through blank touch reel seat, finding the spine and wrapping the guide straight as well as the threads patterns, knowing what to order because kits don't always have everything, etc. All that stuff sounds way to handy for someone like me who can't even hang a portrait level on a wall. Most tedious thing I can do properly is tie an FG knot.

My point is aside from rod building, I've always wanted to try custom rod blanks and components and get away from finished rods. I own plenty of Shimano, Daiwas, Megabass, and Loomis but want to try new stuff and see whats out there. I did have a local builder make me a rod a couple of years ago (guides were pretty crooked) but aside from that, is there a reason why all custom rod builders put their logo on the rods?? Because of this, I have a custom St Croix that I no longer use, but no one wants to buy it because of his giant logo. Even I'm bothered by it aesthetically. Is it a copyright thing? I see no point in having a logo as I already know who I got it built from and the rod already has enough decals from the manufacturer, line lure rating, and specifications itself. I guess my question is does everyone rod builder do this? And the only way to not have this problem is to build it myself? And if that's not the case, can someone build me a few customs that doesn't  have a logo other than what's provided with the blank? And if that is the case, can I get it built from someone who has a really nice looking logo at least ?

A lot to unpack from a silly person but thanks in advance!

If you go to a rod builder tell them not to put their decal on your rod.  I don't put any decals on the rods I build.

The same reason your car, refrigerator, jeans etc have their logos on what they sell.
Heck, If I made something to sell I would do the same thing.

Just do what @Alex from GA said…
Tell them to leave it off.
They may not be happy about it but it’s your money

its a custom rod, so request exactly what you want and will pay for.

If you are having a custom rod built you can have whatever you want- I have seen some that have their names on them or a logo of their choosing.

Personally I want it on my custom rods.  That way there is never a question about where it came from.
