Every Memorial Day, I think a lot about the 2 same people.

SGT Steven "Ski" C. Ganvzewski

2nd PLT, A Co., 3/75 Ranger Regiment

KIA 16-Nov- 2007

CW5 James Dunbar Weeks

1st Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment

KIA 14-May-2006

Both were KIA on missions I was on.  I served with and knew Ski since our pre-Ranger days; he was killed on our 4th deployment together in 2nd PLT.  Chief Weeks had a tremendous impact on me personally for grace he demonstrated when I made a huge mistake early on in that deployment to the Baghdad area.  I think of the gaping holes both left in their families' lives, and what either could have brought the world had their lives not been cut short.  I am so thankful we have men (and women in a lot of cases) like this to honor on this day.  I only wish we were honoring them both on Veterans'Day instead.  RLTW and Night Stalkers Own the Night!

My wife’s cousin and my friend, Randy gave me this hat in what now seems a long time ago. He wore his dress whites in our wedding, he loved to hunt and fish, his country and flying jets for the US Navy. He especially loved his wife and young daughter. Rest in peace my friend.   #FLYNAVY

I always like to give a special shout out to the folks that served in Vietnam.   My generation was fortunate, we came home to standing ovations from complete strangers in the airport.  For all my Vietnam Vets, welcome home.

My brother was a Vietnam Vet. 1968. Thank you to all our veterans this Memorial Day, and everyday. Thank you for the service you've given our country.

Nothing I can say, that already hasn't been said. I can only pray for the friends I've lost, and all those who gave their lives to serve this great country of ours.

Monday will be the most expensive holiday on the calendar.

Every hot dog, every burger, every spin around the lake, or drink with friends and family . . . . is a debt . . .  purchased by others.  This is not about all who have served . . . that day comes in the fall.  This one is in honor of those who paid in life & blood; whose Moms never saw them again, whose Dads wept in private, whose wives raised kids alone and whose kids only remember them from pictures.  This isn't simply a day off.  This is a day to remember - that others paid for every free breath we ever get to take.

Memorial day should only be a day of remembrance and that’s it. No laughter or barbecues.

Different people (and cultures) do remembrance differently.

It’s like Good Friday—some people want it to be solemn and devoid of any frivolity. Others don’t go out of their way to avoid joviality. In fact, the days commemorating the martyrdom of saints are often referred to as “Feast Days.” People feast. Either way is commendable.

So too it is with our civil religion, in which our fallen service members are the analog for the saints.
Whether one feasts or does not feast, as long as one does this out of thanks, that is the main thing.

This is the same degenerate culture that gets blackout drunk to celebrate the feast day of a saint. (Mods if this counts as a religious post please delete)

So my youngest son would be out at the bars and he would talk to the service men and women, he would say thank you for your service and they’d reply that’s not gratitude but sanctimonious and you don’t understand any of it ? I’m not sure what that means because all of our service people seem so appreciative of the love they get?
