I don't know why everyone is so opposed to Cortland considering it's made in the USA. A lot of the others are not...

im going to buy a spool of silent flip from courtlsnd. It would be nice if you could find it for any less than the $38,99

Only braids I use are 131, 832, smackdown, and Cortland. I use Cortland on all my heavy cover setups due to it being a 4/6 strand depending on weight. I mostly use 50lb Cortland and it is excellent for that but definitely not smoothest or quietest. I've also used some 20 and 30lb in the past that I've been happy with. 131 is obviously the smoothest and while I don't have enough time with it to make a proper determination, I'm skeptical of it's abrasion resistance. I think 832 has great abrasion resistance for braid, definitely better than smackdown. Smackdown is smoother though. So just depends on what you're looking for

If you like Smackdown but don't want the grey, there is also a flash green/chartreuse version. I've got spinning reels with both and it's becoming my favourite braid. Handles well and quiet through the guides and roller.

Also have Sufix 131 on a couple reels (Shimano Chronarch G and Stradic FL) and really like it too. Handles well on both casting and spinning. Quiet on the casting gear but does have some whine on the spinning gear surprisingly. Really wish Sufix would release it in a high vis colour and not just the moss green, but that's me nitpicking.

You can buy 131 in chartreuse on ebay. They sell it overseas. Costs a small fortune though

I tend to gravitate towards Daiwa J-Fluoro Grand for all my thicker braid needs.

Maxcuatro is also very good, but I might be inclined to  favor 65# over 50# if I'm not sure because it runs thinner than other braided line.

Anybody else compare silent braid to 131? I have both and it does appear the 131 is noticeably more braid like than silent braid.

Berkley X9 is all i use, and it is very smooth, but i am sure there are smoother lines. This one is just too d**n great price to performance ratio.

agree with this.   X9 and x5 are all I use and I’m very happy with how both perform.

Worth noting that I frogged in heavy vegitation for four years on a single spool of 50lb maxcuarto. I never once broke off. The only reason I’m getting rid of it is finally I had to cut some off due to a bad backlash. Otherwise it has several more years in it
