I’m looking for some quiet braid that can double for heavy flipping and light frogging. I frequent a lot of 4/5 strand for most vegetation fishing but they are loud. I’ll be throwing some moving baits on this.

considering 131 right now. Im a big smack down guy but for some reason can’t get over the silver line. Any other special braids out there ?

Grand X8 J-Braid is really smooth, I use that for all deep sea fishing because of the current deep there.

Makes sure get Grand

If you like Smackdown but don't want the grey, there is also a flash green/chartreuse version. I've got spinning reels with both and it's becoming my favourite braid. Handles well and quiet through the guides and roller.

Also have Sufix 131 on a couple reels (Shimano Chronarch G and Stradic FL) and really like it too. Handles well on both casting and spinning. Quiet on the casting gear but does have some whine on the spinning gear surprisingly. Really wish Sufix would release it in a high vis colour and not just the moss green, but that's me nitpicking.

Is cortlands 50lb silent braid strong enough for frogging ? I have used power pro max Quattro in 50lb for frogging and it hasn’t let me down. I ask because for example find 50lb in some lines is incredibly thin, something I wouldn’t feel awesome about frogging on.

this line is going on the 7’2 heavy steez power pitch that will get Texas rigs in slop and light frogging duty.

It’s available- just not in the USA . I buy 131 in “ neon chartreuse “ from overseas sellers on EBay. Its def my favorite braid right now - but also like YGK for the lighter finesse stuff

I'll recommend 832 for what you mentioned using it for. It's not the smoothest/quietest 8 strand out there, but it's quiet enough, and offers great handling and abrasion resistance at a good price point. If your set on a super quiet braid, 131 is outstanding.

I've not used all braids so cannot claim "The Best," but I have found none better than Hitena Pure Line.  Pricey but lasts a long time.  Have not noticed the typical "braid noise."  I use 19 on spin and it's very trouble free, long lasting, has honest pound test ratings, long casting.

I expect any of the 8 strand lines will be quieter than any of the 4's.  Hitena Pure Line in the higher pound tests is 12 strand.

I haven't had it fail in the last year I have been using it. It has excellent knot strength.

I don’t use braid often but I do have a spinning reel with 8 lb Daiwa grand x8 j-braid and I love it. Super smooth very limp and quiet and holds even my not so great knots well.

If Quatro is all you know, I'm sure either of these is gonna be deafeningly quiet comparatively.  I have one Steez w/ 8 strand PP and one with quatro, it's a dramatic difference.

Quarto is not the smoothest, it designed that way.

I’ve fished 50-80lb Smackdown, X9 & Fins infinity braid. I’m just looking for alternatives to them and if the alternatives are any better than those.

I've used X9 and still use Infinity. Both are smoother than 832, but neither holds up as well to heavy cover. 832 is king there for it's abrasion resistance, while being much smoother than a 4 carrier. 131 is a little smoother than Infinity, and handles better thanks to the gore fiber, but to me it's not a night and day difference. Not enough to justify the cost difference for me. It adds up with as many rods as I use braid on. I'm happy with Infinity for chucking and winding, and 832 for flippin, foggin etc. If price isn't an issue, 131 is the best braid that I've tried.

Sounds like we’re down to suffix 131 or cortland silent braid. Doesn’t seem many have used both.

Berkeley X9 is what I use.

I fish both - for 50# braid silent flip is better.

Silent Flip was maid specifically to be silent in heavy cover and pads - it does the job very well

I'm a big Smackdown fan, but since you don't like the color, the next best would be Dark Green Sunline Xplasma Asegai Braided Line

Hitena Silky 16 carrier or Gosen 16. Pricey, but they are so slick and a pleasure to fish with. I have 2 reels with Gosen 16. I have a spool of Hitena braid but havent tried it yet but in the hand its tough to tell it is a braid. It feels like mono. It is very thin too

I don't know why everyone is so opposed to Cortland considering it's made in the USA. A lot of the others are not...
