Unfortunate Incident

Hello! I'm new here but I really just needed to come on, mostly to vent, but also ask for y'alls thoughts. I know there's plenty of posts in here about losing fish and people asking if they'll bite again, but I need to get this out.

 

There's been this monster bass I've been chasing for weeks in this small park pond. It never seemed very interested in anything thrown at it, but today I finally hooked it on a live bluegill. It took it in about a foot of water right in front of me. As I was landing it, it was in my hands, the line snapped and I lost my footing and took a tumble headfirst into the pond.

 

So here I am, soaked in pond water and without the fish I've been after for weeks. So I'm obviously ticked off and utterly defeated. My question is do we think this fish will ever take a bait again or let alone show its face? I reckon being hooked and dragged halfway ashore and then having a 170lb monster d**n near fall on top of you has to be traumatic. I wouldn't eat again if I was that fish. But I'm not a fish and fish don't have feelings. Or do they? 

 

This is a very small pond and this has to be the biggest fish in there. Everything else I've seen are 0-1lb bass and a plethora of bluegill. Any insights, or condolences, would be helpful.

If she doesn't eat, she dies. I'm with Bird, go at night and rig up a line thru with a live rat. It's almost like cheating.?

I don't know how soon that particular bass will take another meal, but I'd be too embarrassed to return to that pond again until other anglers there stop laughing about that nit-wit who let a bass pull him into the drink...

I taught myself to fish and how to use baitcasters many years ago. This wasn't without its fair share of trials. On one of my first outings I was minding my own business fishing the river bank. A couple wading for what I assume was probably Smallmouth went on by and laughed at me but said nothing. I was confused and honestly irritated, what they heck is so funny? Later on I backlashed pretty bad and had to go sit down and cut it out and respool. It was then that it dawned on me that I was holding the baitcaster upside down like it was a spinning reel. That's what they were laughing at. Upon leaving later that evening a group of people were walking by (I was fishing the river at the state park, get your fair share of fishermen, hikers, walkers, sight seers, etc). I stepped to the side to give them room and immediately hit the muddiest mud ever and fell directly on my back, just absolutely covered in mud. Of course they laughed but also made sure I was ok.

 

So don't feel bad.

I think It’ll hit blue gill again, not right away, but it will want to eat. There is some posts on here about getting broke off and re-catching the same fish and getting the rigs back.
Now falling  on top of her….. that probably freaked her out …hahaha. I can’t counts the times I’ve falling in bank/wade fishing. Falling in, is not so bad… but I hate loosing the fish too.

Dang it! I'm sorry you worked so hard to catch that bass and lost it in such a wet way. It's brave of you to share the story.

 

The guys gave you good advice. It must eat again. Give yourself an advantage by fishing at night.

That is a bummer. I feel your pain though, yesterday I caught one tiny bass and just lost a giant bass. It swam right at me as I tried my best to give a hookset but wasn't fast enough, but I got a good look at her and that was a tough one to swallow for sure.
