fishingotaku Posted May 26, 2023 Posted May 26, 2023 Hi Everyone! I'm in the market for a Megabass Otomat rod. I'm starting to really enjoy topwater fishing, but unfortunately missed out on a good rod when it was available. I'm really a big fan of Megasbass and JDM gear. I like the idea of being able to throw poppers up to a kick knocker using a single rod. Any other rods you'd recommend? Thanks, I do appreciate it! Quote
Tatulatard Posted May 27, 2023 Posted May 27, 2023 Not sure. I have an otomat and I'm not sure what makes it so special as a topwater rod. I'm topwater stupid and just like haha fish go splash on my lures because its fun. I can't nerd out on the technicals of the action, power length and all that. It casts well and is decently balanced. I think it is more of a regular taper. I also use my levante JBS as a topwater rod and it works fine too. It's shorter and not as well balanced as the otomat with stiffer tip but catches fish all the same. You could probably replace my otomat with an orochi JBS or flatside special and I wouldn't know the difference but I'm topwater stupid. I just saw a legendary destroyer for sale for $220 used or whatever it was and got it then put a TD Ito on it. 1 Quote

Yeah, I was looking at those earlier but there's something about the Destroyers that are nice to handle. The OneTen Special or OneTen stick could probably do the trick. I've got a Criffhanger myself and it handles great with soft plastics and small jigs. Well, if you ever considered wanting to sell yours, I'd definitely make a generous offer! Quote
