Just curious what you guys think about the VMC weedless Neko/Wacky hooks? My brother uses them and talked me into getting some which I hope to try out today. Just looking at the hooks I like them with the offset but am a bit leary of the fluro weedguard. It just seems a bit flimsy to me to come through brush, limbs, cover, etc... Anxious to hear what you guys think.

Been throwing em for about a year now & quite honestly can't remember hanging one up. After dozens of bass the weed guard is still like new.

I use them with the VMC crossover rings.

Hanging hasn't been an issue from a boat.

I'll add this about the rings:

Fished for 5 hours last week on the same flickShake.

It depends on the species of weeds in the lake where you're using them. We're just about at the point here where I can no longer use them in many spots. Soon I'll be switching to the VMC Wacky Weedless with the metal leaf-spring weed guard which is very weedless. I've read complaints about them on these forums, but I've had no problems with hookups using crisp MF spinning rods.

Same here. They hang up pretty bad at this point in the year in a couple of my favorite spots.

I have a bunch of the flouro style weed guarded hooks, so I use them. But I find their effectiveness mediocre at best.

X3, its getting to the point where the vegetation may just simply be too thick for it.  Time to start texas rigging it instead.

With VMC it seems like I either hate the product or really like it.  Not a fan of their weedless wacky hook.  The hook itself has semi self setting point, which is good for reel sets.  The issue is the wire is considerably heavier then almost any other wacky hook, which requires more pressure to set which makes it not ideal for lighter wacky rig rods.  When you add the super stiff weedguard to that heavy wire hook it makes it very hard for a ML to get a good set.  The VMC neko is completely different.  Its a medium wire, with a slight offset.  The medium wire combine with the extra leverage from the longer shank allows that hook to be set with very little pressure.  The slightly offset point makes it difficult for the hook to slide out of the mouth without contacting the inside of the mouth, usually the roof of the mouth.  You can tell a good hook when most every company comes out with their own version of it.  Now the FC guard on VMC neko helps a little with sparse grass, but dont expect it to keep the hook from snagging in wood or cover.  If you want to to use an open hook in brush or sparse limbs, a wire guard will be more effective and also more expensive.

I tried them yesterday for the first time.  Small pond, bank fishing. Got hung twice on submerged tree branches that I didn't know were there but was able to unsnag both time.  I don't have that issue with Eagle Claw's weedless hooks.

i use a hookrig a local guy came up with and sells thru TW.  he passed away on a fishing trip, so his pops made them for awhile, but he is hanging it up.  dad said he would give the jig and show me how to crank them out, but i bought a bunch when i heard they were going to stop working on them.

it is an awesome Wacky hook.  the MOTO-hook.
