glock23-21 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 im lookin at the nitro z7, i live in cincinnati ohio so i wont be fishing on big big lakes, They are average size i guess.. the point is i want to hear first hand from people that have them not a dealer or people that just dont like them.. example of this is guns, some people love glocks n people love smith n wesson they say they hate the other but i like both.. i like nitro so i want to hear from people that have the z7 or the z6... thanks 8-) n what to up grade on the boat n what aint worth the money to upgrade when stock is just good.... Try to get a package where the trailer has the brakes. Yours should come with the Optimax. I have the older EFI. It runs fine, but I understand the Optimax is more fuel efficient. Get a keel guard. It's a must. You can ease the boat onto a ramp without damaging the gel coat. It will cost around three hundred installed. Don't do it yourself. If not installed properly, by someone who knows what they are doing it may end up on the bottom of the pond. Get one with a light colored interior. Ever noticed how hot black topped parking lots get on sunny days? Mine is white. Very comfortable on hot days. Sunglasses take care of any glare. You should be wearing sunglasses while fishing. Not only because they give you better visibility into the water, but because they protect your eyes. Cataracts are linked to UV rays from sunlight. They come pretty much turnkey. All the tie downs for the boat to trailer, the transom saver, an onboard charger though the standard is a two bank, 12 volt only charger. They usually hook one bank to a trolling motor battery and the other to the battery for starting the engine and running the electrical stuff such as lights, bilge pump, fish finders, etc. Have them hook a bank to each of the trolling motor batteries. The starting battery should be kept charged by the engine. While the charge from one of the trolling motor batteries may trickle to the other, it will take more than an overnight charge to fully charge both batteries. You may find that if you are not running the engine much, the starting battery may need charging to keep it up to snuff. Get a decent, small battery charger, and hook it up to the starting battery. You have to lift the back hatch anyway to get access to the power cord for the onboard charger, so it's no big deal to hook up a charger to the starting battery. If you fish bigger waters, and run the motor for more than a few minutes at the time, it should keep the battery charged. I fish mostly small ponds and lakes around here, and the motor doesn't run much more than a half hour total for the day, if that. It may take several days but it does eventually drain the battery. Keeping it properly charged will maximize the battery's life. Check the wiring on the trailer where it goes into the frame. If there is no protection from chaffing, you can get use a piece of old garden hose or rubber tubing to protect the wires from chaffing. They will chaff through and then short out, leaving you without functioning lights. Cut a piece of hose about three inches long, then cut through one side so you can get it around the wire. Then, roll it around the wire, and put it into the hole on the frame, so the frame is in the middle of the hose's length. You might find some of the wires go through washers welded to the frame. Do the same hose thing for them. You want a snug fit so the hose will not move once installed. If its too loose, wrap it with electical tape until you have a good snug fit. The ground wire for the lights is found on the underside of the tongue, bolted to a flat plate. If the wire is on the bottom of that plate, undo the bolt, and put the wire on the top of the plate, then bolt it securely. The ground wire is less likely to be damaged by road debris. Make sure all the fittings are greased. Mine weren't. There are fittings for the folding tongue and a couple of fittings for the brake on the side of the tongue, if you have brakes. If you do buy one, try to get them to do all this stuff. For the time it will take, they should do it free to get the sale. The Nitros while they may not be the best boat on the market, they are far and away the best boat for the dollar. Quote

I love mine, its very comfortable, fast enough (61mph), and loads/unloads very easy by myself. the only thing i would like to change is the TM from the 67lb thrust to a bigger one like a 101. i have the 150 Optimax which seems to get great milage. I'm planning to buy a bigger boat this winter, and while I'm leaning towards the Champion Elite series, I haven't ruled out a Z-8 or Z-9. Quote

Nice boats but not as good as what they were building before 2001. As for the nitro, if you like the boat then buy it. I think buying a new boat is silly, get a slightly used one with alot of warranty left and save a ton of money. Quote

Evinrude Ficht Ram injection, 115 HPwith stainless steel prop. 2 Garmin fish finders. 3 - 12V batteries with 3 bank on board battery charger. Motor Guide trolling motor 24 Volt 80 pound thrust, on power gator mount. Trailer has power surge brakes, tires on trailer are in good shape, spare tire is brand new. Auto bilge pump and live well. Bought in March, used twice. Top speed of 55 mph. Boat rides great. Motor starts on first crank. Boat in great shape, will not believe it. Boat and motor covers Quote
