I guess I am the odd ball here....My preferred foot ware for wading, walking a shore line, or being in a boat is "jungle" type combat boots....the ones with the nylon mesh sides. They offer great protection from rocks, good traction when I wade, and great support for my feet and ankles. They give me pretty good traction on the boat, and I can stand all day (well, at least as long as the rest of my body holds up) without hurting my feet or ankles. They have drain holes in the sides of the boots near the sole, so they let water out quickly and dry out reasonably fast. They are not terribly heavy so they are not a problem if I end up going in the water by accident. In warm weather I wear cotton socks, but in cooler or cold weather I wear Murino wool socks which keep your feet warm even if they are wet.

I got these last spring - and they're still my boat shoes this year. Comfortable, stay on, water-drainage. If these get worn out, I'll get the same thing again.

I wear sneakers in the spring and fall.

 

In the summer time wear Teva Toshi water sandals (no socks).

 

I have crocs but if its warm out I can't wear them.  They don't allow my feet to breathe at all and after a while my feet stink like a dead rotting animal.

 

Sperry makes some pretty good footwear for a boat.  They're mostly designed for sailing but you could theoretically use them for fishing too.  I used to have a pair.  They were very durable and lasted for years.

I like to wear a dedicated pair of ASICS gel running shoes on the boat, they’re lightweight and breathable on those hot summer days. And since I will on be running, well sprinting 18-20ft once or twice a day I find those ASICS gel at around $65 or so affordable. I wore Tevas a couple of seasons, but it took a couple of years for the sunburn scars to fade ?.

Along the lines of what AJ wrote, I put memory foam inserts in all my shoes and it is an absolute game-changer.  It will make a pair of basic $75 leather shoes extremely comfortable.  In terms of the OP's question, I wear my most comfortable running shoes when fishing.   I opt for the most plush, cushioning running shoes such as Brooks Glycerin and Hoka Biondi.  The most comfortable shoes I've ever worn are my Hoka Bondi with memory foam inserts.

I tend to wear my running shoes with are a pair of old new balances, I don't like wearing crocs in the sun all day because I had a bad case of "croc burn" and had red holes on my feet because I was lazy and didn't put on sunscreen lol.

I got some cheap neoprene upper "water shoes" at wal mart. They were like $10. They are the best. They dry out super fast, tye sun doesn't get to my feet, and I can feel the breese through them. Somehow, these $10 wal mart shoes are quite comfortable too. I'm the type who will spend money on shoes. Expensive work boots etc. So I didn't have high hopes for these. I got them when I bought a kayak because I always get my feet wet getting in or out of it. Now I I wear them in the boat too. Unless it's cold out. Don't wear them when it's cold out.

Skechers makes some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever tried. I wear them for almost everything. I have never worn crocs, flip flops, or sandals and I don't plan to start wearing them now.

I absolutely love these!   I have three pair in different colors right now.  I wear these much of the summer.  Protect your toes, can get wet, comfy, can move well in them.   And yes, the tiger stripes are cool too.   I will usually wear comfy tennis shoes for a really long day on the boat.

I don't know why but I can't wear flip flops.  By my 3rd or 4th step one of them will be hitting me in the face.  I simply walk out of them.  I wear either Sketchers or New Balance running shoes most of the time.  I "need" good arch support.  I'll go bare footed in the boat, but I sit and lean quite a bit then.

This year I will be using the Keen Solr Sandles. They are a little warm because they are black but they are great for standing all day or even hiking.  Another would be the Teva Strata. Same deal as the Keens. Both of these have slip resistant soles.

 

Just on a side note and I usually don't express my thoughts this strenuously but..... do not use Crocs. They are a death trap. I would compare it to not wearing a life jacket while whitewater kayaking. I have seen more injuries with these shoes than anything else while fishing, especially at the boat ramp.  My fishing buddies have wracked up sprained ankles, broken knee caps,  concussions, a broken elbow and forearm, stiches for cuts and one broken feemer. I know it sounds crazy.  I myself have two pairs. Both are comfortable around the house but I will never wear them on a boat or around water.

My Crocs shrunk really bad in the sun when I left them out to dry. They were good for kayak but I am now wearing Chocos on the kayak. I feel like they have some support, but benefits of flip flops, and awesome tan lines. I always have to go ankle deep at launch so I'm limited on shoe options, I wear waterproof hiking boots in winter.
