I have this Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 4600c and it was a little dirty and hadn't been used in a while. It casted ok but it needed some love. So i watched a video on taking it apart, cleaning, and reassembly. But now it doesn't work, it doesn't freespool, the crank is hard to turn, and I can't seem to find the problem

Kudos for trying to work on it yourself, but it seems like it's time to send it out to a professional.

@Delaware Valley Tackle is a forum sponsor who fixes/cleans reels. Shoot him a message and see if he will work on your reel.

Send it to our own @Delaware Valley Tackle - Mike is an expert reel-repairer and has fair prices.

Any chance you over-tightened the spool tension knob?  Will cause all those problems if too tight.  Try backing off until freespool gives you side-to-side play in the spool and see how everything works.

Then send it to Mike if needed.

I have tried that and it didn't do anything.

This reel isn’t complicated and Mike may be able to talk you through what is binding the spool. Aligning the end plates and seating the spool shaft properly.

You can always ship it to him. Quite a few on here have shipped him their reels for fixing and cleaning.

What part of Alabama are you in? I work on reels and the 4600 is a simple reel and should be a simple fix. if you’re close to Tuscaloosa, let me know. Also don’t try to reel it anymore because you could break the idle gear or cause more problems with it. If something is bound up, something will give or break if you force it.

I'll just take it somewhere local and save money on shipping costs
