Tore Crosby Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 I have this Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 4600c and it was a little dirty and hadn't been used in a while. It casted ok but it needed some love. So i watched a video on taking it apart, cleaning, and reassembly. But now it doesn't work, it doesn't freespool, the crank is hard to turn, and I can't seem to find the problem 1 Quote
Junger Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Kudos for trying to work on it yourself, but it seems like it's time to send it out to a professional. @Delaware Valley Tackle is a forum sponsor who fixes/cleans reels. Shoot him a message and see if he will work on your reel. 2 Quote

Super User bulldog1935 Posted May 24, 2023 Super User Posted May 24, 2023 Any chance you over-tightened the spool tension knob? Will cause all those problems if too tight. Try backing off until freespool gives you side-to-side play in the spool and see how everything works. Then send it to Mike if needed. 2 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 I’m happy to fix your reel or even troubleshoot with you if you contact me. 2 Quote

Super User WRB Posted May 24, 2023 Super User Posted May 24, 2023 This reel isn’t complicated and Mike may be able to talk you through what is binding the spool. Aligning the end plates and seating the spool shaft properly. Tom Quote

You can always ship it to him. Quite a few on here have shipped him their reels for fixing and cleaning. Quote

What part of Alabama are you in? I work on reels and the 4600 is a simple reel and should be a simple fix. if you’re close to Tuscaloosa, let me know. Also don’t try to reel it anymore because you could break the idle gear or cause more problems with it. If something is bound up, something will give or break if you force it. Quote
