I had lots of luck this past weekend with a Storm Arashi Cover Pop.  Now the Bait Monkey wants me to fill a large box with poppers.  I normally use other top water lures,( which I tried with zero success) and am very limited in my selection of poppers.  I only had the storm popper because it was the only popper for sale at my local tackle shop.  A big bass stole that popper and the shop doesn't have any fresh water poppers for sale anymore.  My other poppers are a Pop R and a Hula Popper.  Both work, but I was only having luck walking a popper, the Pop R was more difficult to walk, and the Hula popper will not walk for me at all.  Casting distance is the other feature I am setting a premium on, with good hooks being a plus.

I’m a popper fanatic. My most used is a Megabass Pop Max. Casts a mile, walks well. Don’t love the hooks. I change em out. When I need to downsize I use a Megabass Pop X. Basically a mini version of a Pop Max. Walks well, maybe better  than the Max. I’ve had hooks bend out on me on big fish so changing them is a must. Another popper I love is the Storm Chug Bug. Casts great, walks great, hooks are junk, definitely need changing. I use the 2.75” one the most but I don’t believe it’s made anymore. The larger sizes works well also. I think the Chug Bug walks the best out of any popper I’ve used. Other good options are the Live Target Frog Popper (not a weedless frog, it’s a trebled hard bait) and the Yamamoto Shibuki. Nothing these baits do better than the Megabass or Storm IMO though.

Don Iovino’s Splash-It comes in 2 sizes 1/4 f 3/8 oz, Owners hooks, rear tied with feathers. Check out the colors, I use Blue Neon Shad for SoCal.

Should add that 90%+ bass anglers fish a Splash-It and poppers like it too slow. When bass chase Shad the Shad go to the surface panic to escape and they moving very fast.

You lure should be worked fast so it spits...splashes.

These aren't Hula Poopers!

Heddon Pop-R was modified by Zell Roland and the Japanese perfective the faster spitting design.

The Splash-It incorporates all the designs plus Owner feather hooks.

Picked up two of these after seeing the ones a buddy was re-painting from being chewed up on the Potomac.

My 3 best are an old Rebel Zell Rowland, LC G-Splash, and a Team Diawa one I found on Ebay.

Anybody have an experienced opinion on the Shimano World Pop yet?

Yellow Magic and PopMax are the best 2. The Rico is overpriced and doesn't have anything special IMO.

PopMax and Pop X are my favorite (i consider the PopX just a down sized max).

I'm really hoping for good things with the Shimano though.  It seems to be an attractor but haven't gotten any hits on it yet.  Lots of follows and fish staring.

My favorite is a vintage Rebel Popper  . I dont know what its called . Its larger than a PopR . I dont throw poppers a lot but like this in the summer through  the tops of emergent trees along channels . I've had 70 fish days with it. I make as much noise with it as possible, spitting water 6 feet or more. On windy days when bass are active in the tree tops is the ticket.

When it comes to poppers, seems each of us topwater freaks has a favorite.

Megabass Pop Max is mine.

While I have a few SK & yellow Magic, the POP Max get far more use.

Because it works, Both locally & in Mexico for me.

@king fisher , considering where you will be throwing these,

I would highly recommend changing out the hardware & the hooks;

especially that tail hook.

The popper I was referring to is the Rebel PopR P70. Rebel has re-introduced it as the PopR P71.

@WRB Tom, that is excellent advice!

My “favorite” is a Pop Max, although I get more bites on a Whopper Plopper than I do on poppers.

The Megabass Baby Pop X has been my go to for sheer numbers.  I have one that saw 100+ fish last year. I fish it kind of like a jerkbait.  I pop it fast a few times and let it sit. When it's still, the fish crush it.  Also, the hooks on these are light and sharp but you do need to replace them on occasion.

Old school "Hula Popper" and "Skitter Pop" are my favorites.
