bigspirit Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Looking to get my dad a setup to replace his old rod. He’s pretty simple and enjoys just throwing a zoom finesse worm t rig or a wacky or weightless senko/dinger. Looking at the Daiwa Procyon 7’ M 1/4-3/4oz rod. Would this be enough to set the hook on a weightless dinger with a 4/0 hook? Will be using braid. just no experience with this rod and don’t want to overestimate the abilities. Quote
optimator Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 I use the Tatula TTU6101MXS for wackys. I like the extra fast tip on it. 1 Quote

mrpao Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Also, what is his old rod? Would the procyon be an upgrade or about the same equivalent? Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted May 22, 2023 Super User Posted May 22, 2023 My primary wacky rig rod is a 6’ 6” Fenwick HMX MF. I have zero issues with hooksets. But I use a circle octopus hook and reel it in to set the hook. As far as T-rigs, I often fish weightless Senkos on a 3/0 EWG with a 6’ 10” St. Croix Bass-X ML/XF or a 6’ 6” Daiwa Procyon M/XF. Both set that hook well. That Procyon should as well if it’s a F or XF tip. Quote
Super User GetFishorDieTryin Posted May 22, 2023 Super User Posted May 22, 2023 Never had one in my hand, but got to check out the Tatula XTs a while ago and the 7' M would work well as long as you stay with braid. Quote

For weightless senkos, a M power rod is my preference, paired with braid to leader. If I'm throwing a larger, weighted Texas rig, then I do like to bump up to a MH. Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted May 22, 2023 Super User Posted May 22, 2023 I did neglect to add that all three reels on those rods are spooled with braid-to-leader. Quote
Friggs Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 My Wacky/T-Rig rod is a St Croix Mojo Bass MXF 6' 8". It was designed for weightless stick baits. And I even use it for weighted T-Rigs as long as I don't use a lot of weight. Which I never do. And it works perfectly for them. Very sensitive. I love it. It is tied for first place as my favorite rod. Quote
BigAngus752 Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 I've been using a Dobyns FR 703SF spooled entirely with 6lb Trilene for many years. It's perfect for wacky worms and any other weightless plastic and it's spectacular for skipping a wacky rig. I've used braid with a mono or flouro leader in the past on this setup and find no advantage over straight Trilene. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted May 22, 2023 Super User Posted May 22, 2023 Wacky rigs and other exposed hook weightless plastic techniques I like a medium power. If I’m driving hook through plastic like a Texas rig, I like at least a medium heavy. 2 Quote
Dye99 Posted May 23, 2023 Posted May 23, 2023 Ive used many over the years but when I got ahold of the Gloomis NRX+ 852s ( medium ) I have had no need to switch out to anything else. So with that said Medium for me. Quote
Mastercaster Posted May 24, 2023 Posted May 24, 2023 Wacky rod - 6'10" LTB ML Fast spinning rod, T-rigged senko I use a 6'-8"Bass-X M Xfast baitcaster and for all other T-rigs various MH Fast baitcasters 7'. Quote
