bugman Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I love GYCB baits and have had much luck with senkos, Ikas, grubs and kreatures. I have never fised the Kut Tail Worm and would appreciate any tips on this bait. I see they make 4" thru 6.5" Kut Tails. What size do you use the most? Quote
tbird Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 For some reason the 4" kut tail worm is a killer on a drop shot rig ,I have used other kinds of worms at the same spot where I am catching fish with to no avail. Go Figure. Just my 2 cents. Quote
Triton21 Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Also used them on a shakey head with good results. Kelley Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 21, 2007 Super User Posted August 21, 2007 I fish the 6 1/2" Kut-Tail, T-rigged with a bead, unpegged. This bait is my favorite worm in deeper water, especially on vertical structure (docks and timber). I have had some success with the bait weightless in grass, too. Quote
bugman Posted August 21, 2007 Author Posted August 21, 2007 Thanks RW, I think I will give the T-rigged 6.5" a try in a few marinas that have nice coontail beds in about 15' of water. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted August 21, 2007 Super User Posted August 21, 2007 The Big Kahuna Cut Tail worm is one of my go-to baits. I fish it T-rigged, with a 5/0 EWG hook, 1/16oz Ultra Steel weight, and an Ultra Steel clicker. I'll go up in wieght as the target range gets deeper, or the wind demands it. I always have one of these rigged and ready to go. This rig, and the reverse rigged Fat Ika, are my one-two punch for deeper water. I've never tried a Cut Tail weightless; it sounds like I should. I've never bought, or used, the smaller Cut Tails. Cheers, GK Quote
J_pontius Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 I gotta say the 4 inch is an awsome on a drop shot set up. Quote
CK14 Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 you can't keep the smallies around here away from the 3.5"-5" cut tails in color 240... Quote
Triton9 Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 i use all the sizes but the 5'' seems to work best for me on drop shots or shakey heads. they are great worms in finesse situations. Quote
Guest btlva Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Just wondering what makes a kut tail better than say a typical straight-tail worm? Does it have a different action or something? Just one of those baits that doesn't look that special, kind of like a curl tail worm that's been mutilated, and I guess that's why I never tried it. Maybe I should. Quote
bugman Posted August 22, 2007 Author Posted August 22, 2007 From what I have been told it has the action between a senko and a curl tail. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 22, 2007 Super User Posted August 22, 2007 The tail waves which creates a somewhat unique presentation for a worm. Quote
Fishin Phil Posted August 23, 2007 Posted August 23, 2007 Cut tails and smallies are made for each other. Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted April 24, 2019 Super User Posted April 24, 2019 There's probably a more recent thread on these, but since search still doesn't like three letter words, this is the one I found. Some good info, but, I want more....Toxic? I have a variety of these, but used them successfully exactly once....dead sticking in 11 feet of water on hard bottom...but, I imagine most any worm would have worked in that exact situation. Do you use GYCB Kut Tails? What're your tips, tricks and secrets? Quote

Do you use GYCB Kut Tails? What're your tips, tricks and secrets? I have started using the 6.XX" ones a lot this spring. Before I was fishing them weightless and didn't see much difference between them and a senko. But once I started adding a 1/16oz un-pregged sinker in-front of the plastic I really started having luck with them. They still fall pretty slowly, but more nose-down and the tail does a very gentle sway as it falls. I have been doing great with it in light pads on days when it's too windy for a trickworm. I retrieve it with a series of short hops, tugging it through the pads as needed. I have some of the 4" ones and use them on a DS every once and a while, but they have never been anything special rigged that way for me. They work nicely on a 2/0 Slider head though and I think the rest of my stash of them is going to be used up that way. 1 Quote

I prefer the Pro Senko in most of those same situations (dropshot. shakeyhead, ned or on a ball head) My problem is that they get bit too well. Fish have a tendency to bite the tail off. I do swim the bigger versions and use them on a c-rig. Great bait though. 1 Quote
Dirtyeggroll Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 I use the 7” Neko rigged in hot post-spawn when conditions are tough. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 25, 2019 Global Moderator Posted April 25, 2019 They're one of the only baits I can get bit on a dropshot consistently. I've also had a lot of luck with them on a very light T-rig on a spinning rod when the bite is tough. Quote
Super User Munkin Posted April 25, 2019 Super User Posted April 25, 2019 I user some of them in the smaller size 3-4" to fish for keepers in some ultra clear waters for certain tournaments. Allen Quote

I was proven very, very wrong. 2 1 Quote

blckshirt98 Posted April 26, 2019 Posted April 26, 2019 3.5"-5" kut tail is one of my go-to dropshot baits, Baby Bass is my color of choice. When Outlet Bait was clearing out the Kinami kut tails I stocked up on a lifetime supply, they always get bit. 1 Quote

That’s where I got mine from. I have a lot of them in back w/red flake and pearl and a few in pumpkin. They were like a buck or so a pack and I could not resist. I am almost out of the pumpkin ones, curious to see if the black and pearl ones produce as well. 2 Quote
Rodney Smith Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 I really like the 6.5 on a Neko rig post spawn. The head is perfect for using a screw. Makes a nice flat head and catches a lot of fish. Quote
