a1712 Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 Curado 70, Tatula 70, 80. Bunch of small palmable reels available today. Brian. 1 Quote
LCG Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 Curado 70 MGL is a nice, reliable, smooth, and small reel. Daiwa Alphas SV TW is also nice. The SLX 70 MGL is a bit less money and also very similar to the curado 70 MGL, just a smidge wider, but still small and comfortable. Quote
SproDD79 Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 Curado 70 mgl is super comfortable to grip, I have Metaniums and Bantams, but I find the Curado the most comfortable to grip. The Alderbaren is super comfortable to grip but it's sweet spot is for finesse or lighter weights, the curado can handle heavier applications. See if you can get your hands on a Lews SLP reel, they are tiny reels that are comfortable to grip as well. Quote
KP Duty Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 I'd get him a Tat 80. Japan Lure Shop has them for $123 plus shipping ($12-$15). I love mine. https://japanlureshop.com/daiwa-22-tatula-tw-80.html 1 Quote

Super User dodgeguy Posted May 21, 2023 Super User Posted May 21, 2023 Lew's Custom Lite. 4.9 oz and small. Fantastic reel. 2 Quote
Motoboss Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 KISTLER Series 1 or 2 (less expensive) Although I am Shimano guy and the BFS SLX is an excellent sized reel but the spool line quantity leaves me a bit,,,,,,,ughmmmm, short. 1 Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 I personally like Daiwa and Shimano reels, but if looking for a small reel, I would add the Lews SLP and LFS reels to the mix listed above. I like my SLX and Curado MGL reels, the Daiwa Alphas, but the Lews Custom SLP and Tourn MB LFS reels are small and compact too. 1 Quote

But the tatula 80 ain’t no slouch. Quote

Super User NorthernBasser Posted May 22, 2023 Super User Posted May 22, 2023 Is the Tat 80 smaller than the 70? I have a few 70's and they are quite tiny. Great reels. Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 If he has a 3.0 average or better get him a JDM Metanium (100), tiny reel and just a pleasure to fish with. If you want to stay USDM then get a Curado 70. If his grades aren't that great then go for the Tatula 80. 1 Quote

Super User T-Billy Posted May 22, 2023 Super User Posted May 22, 2023 Shimano 70/150 MGL's as mentioned above are great. The Lew's SLP frame reels are also very small, comfortable, well built reels. 1 Quote

QED Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Since he sounds proficient at using casting reels, the Daiwa 20 Steez Air TW 500 and the Shimano 22 Aldebaran BFS are the shiznitz and are what I am using. Quote
