Striper9 Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 When I was younger used to fish before and after work now that I’m older, married, house kids I try to go 1-2x a week when I’m off. Miss those younger days. How often do you guys get out? 2 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted May 21, 2023 Super User Posted May 21, 2023 We all have such different situations, and it's always changing as is life. However since the beginning of August when I got re obsessed with the sport, I've spent on avg. 5/7 days. Or about 240/270 days. Some days it's for only a couple hours, other days it's for 4-6hrs, almost never is it a full day of fishing. It's easy for me to be on the water within 10mins of wanting to be. If it was 30mins-1hr, I'd be staying longer, and going less days I'm sure. If you want inspiration, let Pat Cullen guide you ? 1,113 Giant Bass… And Counting – Georgia Outdoor News (gon.com) 1 Quote
Super User T-Billy Posted May 21, 2023 Super User Posted May 21, 2023 Two or three full days a week from March to December. Quote
Susky River Rat Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 I have been keeping track of my outings so far this year. I am currently at 16 from Jan 1st. Now I am not going off hours fished. This year my outlook is focused on fun only. Sure I love catching but, the days of me not taking a break through the day are done. If I want to sit down for 10 minutes and pet my fishing buddy I am going to. I beach the boat and take him for pee breaks. So I’d say if I spend 3-5 hours actually fishing that’s a lot for a day. So on the low end of things let’s say 48 hours total for the year so far fishing. Now go back to my last couple musky years. I was fishing probably 40 hours a week and working 45 plus hours. I didn’t sleep much. I also don’t have kids, have a great wife and didn’t have my dog. Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 21, 2023 Super User Posted May 21, 2023 How often do I fish? How over do I catch? Getting a lot of practice casting lately! 1 2 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 21, 2023 Super User Posted May 21, 2023 During a normal week, I can get out at least once. It may be for only 2 or 3 hours, but I manage to squeeze some fishing in. Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted May 21, 2023 Super User Posted May 21, 2023 For me, usually twice a week. 1 Quote
FishTax Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 Currently about once a month because of work and family obligations. I'm going to try to start going before work some soon. My local lake was opening at 7:30 but now it's open at 630 so I have a little more flexibility as long as the ramp line isn't long. Quote
throttleplate Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 Not as often as 2021 and 2022 when wife and i went 3x a week. I will say we now go 1x a week this new year to minnesota hoping to up it to 2x a week when the river levels in north dakota go down another 5 feet. Our quality of fishing to catch and eat has dramatically increased since we started in 2022 to target small mouth which are abundant with the walleye in the rivers we fish. We keep the walleye to eat. Quote
padlin Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 When the health and weather allows, twice a week. Once by myself during the week, once on weekends with a grandson. Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted May 21, 2023 Super User Posted May 21, 2023 In the winter I only fish a few times a month...maybe once a week if I'm on a really solid ice bite. Open water I try to get out 2-4 times a week. Quote
Alex from GA Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 As often as the weather and my health allow. I don't usually fish on weekends; mow the lawn, etc. Usually 3-4 times a week and not for a full day. Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted May 21, 2023 Super User Posted May 21, 2023 The days of being a single early 20s and getting out 6-7 days a week are over. Now as a basically married early 30s, if I get out 4 times it’s a good week. Usually it’s more like 1-2 times. During prespawn I make it a point to get out as much as absolutely possible. This is April-December. Rest of the year the lakes are frozen so it’s 0 times per week. Quote
crypt Posted May 21, 2023 Posted May 21, 2023 at least once a week. sometimes I get luck and go twice. Can't wait to retire..... Quote
Super User N Florida Mike Posted May 21, 2023 Super User Posted May 21, 2023 I go on road trips a few times a year, and usually fish no more than an hour and a half away. I go out in the boat in the home lake every 2 weeks on average. I will usually bank fish also for shorter time periods 2-3 times a week. Quote
Super User gim Posted May 21, 2023 Super User Posted May 21, 2023 If you are a full time working man with a family, house, pets, etc good luck finding time. Homes require regular maintenance, both indoor and outdoor. I can’t just leave when I want to anymore for hours on end. Some people can. That being said, I still try to go once or twice a week from mid April - mid October. I feel pretty fortunate to be able to go as often as I’m able to. I try to go for 3-4 hours at a time rather than one full 8 hour day. I would probably go a little more if I didn’t have to do time at the man made prison. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 22, 2023 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 22, 2023 Since I beat cancer, I'm back at it every weekend again, at least one day of the weekend, often both. But I don't fish all day like I used to. 4-6 hours is about right and gives me time to do other things too. Life is good. 13 Quote
Woody B Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 I work too much so I normally only get to fish weekends. I'll pretty much go every Saturday and Sunday. During the Summer I go early. I'm able to fish 4 to 6 hours before the lake gets crowded. Every now an then I'll go after work but I don't get to fish long, due to work the next day. Quote
Jleebesaw Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Lucky to go 3 or 4 times a month. Up until last year I was a 4 or 5 times a week guy with normally 2 or 3 tournaments a month. This is all from may through November because of the winters here in NY. Quote
Functional Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 depends. I can hit a week where I get an opportunity to go 3-5 times a week and then I could hit a dry spell for 2-3 weeks. On average its 3-4 times every 2 weeks. Now that my daughter is older and wants to go on the boat and my wife is up for it I suspect that number will go up on average this year. Shes already talking about a bigger fishing boat for more area for our daughter and bags that go with it....Showed her a Lund 1875 pro-v and it has her thinking... 2 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted May 22, 2023 Super User Posted May 22, 2023 If you averaged out a whole year, maybe close to once a week. More when it's warm. Less in winter. So my wife has been goin to Weight Watchers for more than a year and has nearly lost 100 lbs. I've just been eating her cooking and also lost weight. But she hit a plateau and wanted to join a gym. That's a money commitment, so we go when we can. I do it to encourage her, but I also love the health benefits and how it's making me look in the mirror. That has taken a few fishing days away from me this spring. But honestly, weather and other obligations took April away from me...again. 3 Quote
Super User king fisher Posted May 22, 2023 Super User Posted May 22, 2023 In the summer when I was a kid living in the country, I went down to the lake almost every day. I fished from a small dock at the boat launch. I would drool when a guy with a bass boat loaded with gear would launch their boat. Sometimes they would open one of their giant tackle boxes, and let me look at the lures inside. I always felt like I was looking at a box of diamonds. It wasn't long before I noticed they had all the gear I dreamed of, but didn't go fishing very often, and usually didn't catch as many fish as my friends and I did. We always referred to them as city anglers. I hate to admit it, but now I am a city angler. I have way more tackle than I need, and I have only been fishing 7 days this year. I wont be bass fishing more than a couple days this summer, and hope to get out for a weekend or two in the fall. I don't know why I let a little thing like work get in the way of my bass fishing, but I do. It's official, except for having a boat, I am exactly like the fishermen I dreamed to be. 1 Quote
Gera Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Once per week unless I get better plans or just decide I want to stay in bed. Quote
Skunkmaster-k Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 If there’s no lightning or tornadoes , I’m going fishing after work and maybe even half a day Saturday. And Sunday. Quote
mrpao Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 I usually go one to three times a week, depending on weather and work schedule. Would go more if the wife didn't complain about it too much. I don't usually fish on weekends due to family time and heavy lake traffic. Quote
