Striper9 Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 Does anyone use these? I use the 75lb ones in saltwater but looking to grab some minis for bass fishing. What size do you guys use? Mainly going to be used on jerkbaits, and topwater like 110 plopper, super spook and poppers Quote

Size 0 on spinning with 15lb braid 28 minutes ago, Striper9 said: Mainly going to be used on jerkbaits, and topwater like 110 plopper, super spook and poppers Set your drag appropriately and size 0 will be fine for jerkbaits, neds, and other light baits, but is also fine for the others you mentioned. Remove the split rigs on jerkbaits. However, if you feel you must fish with locked down drag, then upsize to size 2 at a minimum for baits as heavy as a 110 and heavier gear. Quote

Super User PhishLI Posted May 22, 2023 Super User Posted May 22, 2023 I use VMC Touch-Lok snaps for everything above the 00 Spro, so I gave the other sizes away. The VMC's clasp/latch won't pass through the smallest hook eyes though, but the 00 Spro will, even a typical a Ned. The 00 measures a breath under a 1/2" long. fin Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 (edited) I tried a pack of those in the 0 size, and had a bad experience with them. I don't know if a larger size would be better, but for me, they were almost too easy to use for some lures and almost impossible for others. They should be fine for those Rapalas. Hard to put on something like a deep diver. But the main reason I quit using them was on one occasion my line slid around to the joint, and there must have been a tiny gap where the line slid through enough to get cut and broke. Lost a nice fish and nice lure. It was obvious from the way my line was cut inside the knot what had happened. I think Owner makes a similar product that is welded at that joint. Edited May 22, 2023 by fin corrected size to 0, not 00 Quote

According to spro website there’s no such thing as a “00” it goes from 0 to 1 Quote

Refer to my post from Thursday where I got it right. And you can get obliterated by a falling jet engine walking your hamster to the bus stop. Anything made by man can fail. In general, they're fine. Personally, I haven't had an issue yet, and I'm a snap using son of a biscuit. I've had my fair share of different snaps fail though, and not just once either. Enough to where I'll never go back to them. I agree that some odd baits can be tricky to get on, like certain poppers, and some jerks where the bill is closer than usual to the line tie. Nothing's perfect, but these work well most of the time. BTW, if you keep the knot cinched tightly it won't slide around. Giving it a pull occasionally while locking it down with a fingernail does the trick. I realize that this isn't a helpful tip if you're one of those ghouls who chews their fingernails down to the nub. In that case, I'm plumb out of advice. Quote

Knots shouldn’t slide, but the odds are way more likely that the knot slides into that joint than a jet engine falling on you, hamster or not. I said that was the reason I quit using them, not the reason you and the rest of the world should quit using them. I normally use speed clips and was out. I could only get my hands on the SPRO. After the trouble I had with the SPRO, I would rather use cheap Eagle Claw snaps than those Prime snaps, and that’s what I did until I got some more speed clips. No need to get wound up because I use a different product than you. Quote
