bwell Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 There is a 14' john boat with trailer, 12hp outboard, and 35lb trolling motor for 1000 bucks. Is this a good deal? The boat is solid, it camo'd out and the trailer is in really good condition. The trailer has rollers, wiring looks good (lights work). Is this a good price for this setup? Quote
manavoodoo Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 If that rig was where I live I would be very interested in it at that price. What is the floor width? If 42 or more I would jump on it for sure. Quote
manavoodoo Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 That rig would be going for around 1400 or more in my region of the country. I look at craigslist a lot for boats. I would tell the guy you have 800 today and see if he bites! Also, if you are not aware of tinboats.net check them out. Its my 2nd favorite forum site. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 23, 2011 Super User Posted March 23, 2011 If all is in order, that's a better than fair deal. Boats like that are going for $1400+ around here. Lots of demand for something less expensive to run as a 2nd boat. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted March 23, 2011 Super User Posted March 23, 2011 Great deal if the motor checks out. Quote
bwell Posted March 23, 2011 Author Posted March 23, 2011 Its 48" wide, I think I'm going to jump on it. Thanks guys. Quote
Super User CWB Posted March 23, 2011 Super User Posted March 23, 2011 Its 48" wide, I think I'm going to jump on it. Thanks guys. Too Late! Kidding. ;D Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted March 23, 2011 Super User Posted March 23, 2011 I wouldn't be too quick on that deal. Being a 12 hp motor, what brand and how old is it. That's a strange hp and makes me think it's either fairly old, and or some odd make, or maybe both. Quote
bwell Posted March 24, 2011 Author Posted March 24, 2011 Its a 1957, but it has totally been rebuilt... It starts up no problem. Quote
B-Dozer Posted March 24, 2011 Posted March 24, 2011 If you feel the boat, trailer, and trolling motor are worth it fine, but a 54 y/o motor will be hard to get parts for, will have frozen fasteners, so in mho is not worth much at all. Quote
Super User Way2slow Posted March 24, 2011 Super User Posted March 24, 2011 Well, that's totally your call, I would place a max value on that motor at $125. Totally rebuilt, I wouldn't believe that unless I saw it done. I have very serious doubts about being able to get parts to do a total rebuild. If it's not a Johnson, I can almost bet it's not. The max value I would place on it would be $800. Quote
bwell Posted April 3, 2011 Author Posted April 3, 2011 Ended up picking up the boat for 900 The outboard is a 12hp Gale, it started on the 4th pull, trailer was in great shape (just been sanded down and painted), and the trolling motor works fine. All in all I think it was a pretty good deal. Quote
