Ben77 Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 I want to upgrade and get something better money is not a problem. I'm thinking about getting a curado dc. I'm fairly new to baitcasting and love them any other suggestions? Quote

Super User Darth-Baiter Posted May 17, 2023 Super User Posted May 17, 2023 i kind of agree with @Delaware Valley Tackle. i have an SLX. mine is DC. myMGL reels are awesome. definately better but it isnt always obvious. what is obvious is the rigididty of the reel. under the load of a big fish, i swear i can feel the SLX flex and creak. it does it so often i am always checking the reel seat tightening nut thing thinking it came loose. nope. it is the reel. i'll get the 150 Curado DC one day. for science. test it out. 1 Quote
T2DM Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 If money is no problem, then skip a few Shimano reels and just go Metanium B or Bantam A. 1 1 Quote
msgf91 Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 Even with st croix LTB and a Bantam you get that anxious flex feel if you don't have the reel seat tight. I felt some flex when I caught a big drum. Might just be flex if you load the rod up a lot. 1 Quote
GetFishorDieTryin Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 The SLX and Curado are so close, it wouldnt be a worth while upgrade. The least expensive way to break into the upper level reels is to go JDM. For what you pay for a domestic Curado DC you can get a JDM Zillion or 20 Metanium. While Zillion or Metanium aren't flagship reels, theyre on another level when compared Curado. 1 Quote
Super User ATA Posted May 19, 2023 Super User Posted May 19, 2023 I am so suggesting metanium 20 or Metanium Dc, Also due to the rate you can get Antares very cheap( I bought my two Antares 21 Dcs when they came out $1500), Antares now about $600. 1 Quote
Super User webertime Posted May 19, 2023 Super User Posted May 19, 2023 Newest Zillion is amazing. That's all I can say, just so good at everything. 1 1 Quote
Smirak Posted May 19, 2023 Posted May 19, 2023 I’ve got a couple SLX DCs and a Curado (non-DC). I had a Curado DC, but I really didn’t see a $70 difference between that and the slx dc, so I got a non-dc Curado. If money were no object, I’d get a metanium dc. 1 Quote
optimator Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 My SLX MGL’s are just as smooth as my Curados. But the Curados feel much more solid to me. 1 Quote

GPtimes2 Posted May 20, 2023 Posted May 20, 2023 Already mentioned above, but I would second the Antares DC suggestion. Digitaka.com (Japan) has them for $479. Or keep watch for the Antres (non DC) to come back in stock. They are currently listed for $378. People who buy every high end reel there is will tell you how good these are (some say the absolute best). I would still recommend these even if they were $700. And they get to your door from Japan a few days faster than crossing the USA from a local vender. 1 Quote
djhands Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 I have the conquest with an Antares DC it's an amazing combo the reel is so smooth 1 Quote
Scud_Muffin Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Tatula SV is my preference over the Curado DC and it costs less. 1 Quote
Gera Posted May 22, 2023 Posted May 22, 2023 Make a real change and go for a Daiwa. (not a fanboy I'm a 60/40 Shimano-Daiwa user) Quote
