ironbjorn Posted May 16, 2023 Posted May 16, 2023 My favorite thing to do is pitching. To me there's nothing better than pitching your plastic or jig at a target and getting bit. For one, you chose right. You correctly identified a stump, log, branch, weed pocket, dock post, or whatever it may be, that a bass was sitting on laying in ambush. And from there it's pure combat to get them off it / out of it so they don't wrap up or break you off. Exhilarating. 4 Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 16, 2023 Super User Posted May 16, 2023 I like to jig fish. #1 my hair w/pork trailer. #2 my jig tied with living rubber and chigger Craw trailer. Old friend is making Pull Ball jigs for me. 3# Texas rig brass glass big worms at night. Just catching bass on finesse is either drop shot, slip shot, nail weight wacky worm. Still like crank baits and dog walking surface lures when that bite is working. Tom 5 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 16, 2023 Super User Posted May 16, 2023 Pitching a jig into cover, or working it over the top across structure. I love it when the jig settles back down to the bottom and you feel that thump on the end. 2 Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 16, 2023 Super User Posted May 16, 2023 I love it when I set hook & the bass is big enough to set hook back! Â You bottom feeders know what I'm talking about. 13 1 2 Quote

Wacky rig and drop shot are my favorites. I may try shakey head and carolina rig late in the season. I am land based, no boat. I do have one pier I fish from. I have not caught anything on crankbaits, jigs or spinners. Plastics have worked better. 1 Quote
Way north bass guy Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 I think my most favourite has varied a bit over the years, but nowadays it’s most definitely a frog. So much fun when you get that explosion through a bunch of pads or slop, and you never know how big it’s gonna be until you get a look at it. Quote
FishTax Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 I'm a bottom feeder. Jigs and shaky head are my go to, always tied on. I like to camp on a spot and work it thoroughly. 1 Quote
Super User Columbia Craw Posted May 17, 2023 Super User Posted May 17, 2023 Whatever it takes to get a bite. My tackle inventory confirms that. 3 Quote
Jleebesaw Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 I like t rigs. Topwater is awesome too. But I find that I use t rigs more than anything. If the bass aren't biting good for me, I always slow down and pick areas apart with bottom contact. Near shore, I use the t rig. If it's offshore I'll break out the ole carolina rig. The carolina rig doesn't get talked about much these days, but we all know it catches them. 2 Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted May 17, 2023 Super User Posted May 17, 2023 Favorite is spinnerbait and it probably always will be. It is associated with what I would consider my best rod and reel combo. Falcon Expert Head Turner with a REVO Winch Gen 4. 2 Quote

While not my most productive technique, it is Easily my favorite way to get bites. A-Jay   I have caught two fish at once, but never two like ^this^ pair. My two biggest LMBs on one lure, caught on a Whopper Plopper in the barest light, were 19" and 17". My two biggest SMBs at once were both 18-inchers, caught below a waterfall in Ontario.  This is a great thread. Thanks, @Darth-Baiter!  My favorite technique is surface lures. Super User Boomstick Posted May 17, 2023 Super User Posted May 17, 2023 Hard to choose a single favorite. Maybe topwater for the blowups? I do like bottom contact and crankbaits and spinnerbaits a lot too Quote

Standard Posted May 17, 2023 Posted May 17, 2023 Topwater for sure. Had one launch clear out of the water to hit a Choppo this past weekend, so awesome to see.  12 minutes ago, Darth-Baiter said: lots of topwater. you all have the topwater combo as your best combo?  I've been using my Mojo Bass glass M/M for topwater, crank baits and chatter baits. Really like it, even more so after putting on a Zillion SV TW. My rod for smaller topwater is the St Croix Mojo Bass 6'8" M/XF "topwater" rod. Not the highest end rod, but it is a great power and action. My jig or heavier T-Rig rod and reel is my best combo. Bass Rutten Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 Nothing beats topwater walk-the-dog lures for me. The Jack in the box/pop goes the weasel melody playing repeatedly in my head during retrieves may have something to do with it. Quote
Bigassbass Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 I love top water bites so my favorite set up is my Shimano CI4 2500 spinning reel on a Lew's I-Pro rod. Â I have used Rapala floaters and Husky jerks for years, caught more fish on them than any other plug I've ever thrown. Â I have also caught many bass on soft plastics no weight line line, lizards work best in the spring. Quote
