Oh, we have those signs too...but I guess people must think it's just a 'suggestion' or something (This is me trying to be positive and not saying what I really think of them ).

When I first stated fishing, we didn't have money.  The idea of buying a boat was totally out of the question.  Lucky for me, I grew up in South Florida with canals and rock pits all around me.  I had a paper route after school which gave me enough money to buy my first fishing reel. I put the reel on layaway at my local tackle shop until I could pay it off.  My parents saw that I loved fishing, so they hooked me up with a man from church who fished.  He had a 10 foot aluminum Jon Boat and taught me how to paddle from the front.  I idolized that man and he sent me down the road to a lifetime of fishing.

 

The reason I am telling you this is to state how important it is for you to take a kid fishing.  A kid who loves fishing is less likely to turn out to be a gang member or criminal.  Kids who do not have anyone to show them what a man is supposed to be will learn from people around them.  Many times, that person is not of the best character or he doesn't know himself.  Worse yet, he may have no one who cares.  You have no idea the influence you may have on someone's future.

@Captain Phil 100%.  i think it played a part of keeping me out of any major trouble.  fishing and hunting.  but beyond that, i think teaching a kid to enjoy reading and doing math is actually even more important.  kids that know calculus and real books dont get into trouble either. at all relatively.

 

i got into some fishing trouble at the local "no fishing" golf courses...just saying.

honestly though why should you having a boat and trailer mean you should get to park closer if I got there earlier than you did.

Has nothing to do with distance. Spots meant for trucks with trailers are longer. Regular parking spots can’t fit a truck with a trailer, which is why there are longer spots reserved for vehicles with trailers.

The worst thing for me about bass fishing or all fishing is having perfect fishing weather during the weekday and terrible conditions on the weekends.  It seems like we have been stuck in this pattern in South Louisiana most of the year.  

 

And gnats.  I hate those lil suckers with a passion.  Lol.

Kayak starting to really hurt my lower back after an hour. Just gets worse unless I get out and stretch. I live in town and barely have room for my cars, so a boat is out of the question for now. I really would like to give a jon boat the electric bass boat treatment.

that doesn't make sense though because apparently the overflow parking can accommodate trailers as well.

I park wherever I need to and have a kayak and a trailer.  And  think we found one of the people I mentioned in my post and actually others did too....I don't mind walking if I need to and having boat and trailer shouldn't mean you can park closer.

You have an interesting point of view.  I never thought that expecting a designated boat trailer parking area (as in signed and posted) at a boat ramp to be free from non-trailered vehicles was a controversial stance.

So if I understand you correctly, if i get to the grocery store before a disabled person, veteran, or pregnant person, I get to park in spots closer to the store that are reserved for them?

I think there may be some confusion here.  Certain parking spots are designated with trailers only.  Certain spots are not.  If you have a kayak with a trailer, you can use the spot designated as such.  If you do not have a trailer, you cannot.  Same with the normal spots.  If you have a trailer you cannot park in the standard size spots.  @Logan S isn't picking on a kayak here, he's just annoyed that someone who does not have a trailer is parking in a spot designated for trailers.

 

It really has nothing to do with the distance you need to walk to and from the access.  At least where I fish it doesn't.  Certain spots are designated for specific types of parking, and should be enforced as such.

Another bad thing for me is that there are fewer and fewer places to fish. All the water is being bought up, sometimes fenced, and posted private/no trespassing/no fishing. Can't hardly find a decent pond anymore, and because of crime, littering, and a downright mean spirit in this world, the days of being able to knock on a door to gain permission is almost nonexistent. If you want to fish a pond it's going to be a piece of crap in a public park that has been absolutely beat to death.

 

Want to fish the rivers? Good luck finding a spot to get down to it. Private homes and businesses take up the access points and are posted no trespassing.

 

Want to bank fish a public lake? Again the shoreline/access points are private homes and all bought up and posted. 

 

It's getting to the point where, as someone else mentioned, you need a bass boat that is unattainable for most people or risk it on a kayak with people zipping around at 70mph, just to fish a public lake. That's about where we're at with options.

Pollution. I hate the idea of losing plastic baits in water. I'm a well pump/water treatment installer so I know we'll be filtering chemicals associated with these plastics out of potable water at some point (if we aren't already with all these forever chemicals). I've tried to Biobaits and they just aren't THERE yet with them.

We're already consuming a credit card worth of microplastics every week. It's even cycling through the clouds/atmosphere. They're finding microplastics in water in the mountains and places without human populations because it's raining down on the earth. We did a number on the planet since the industrial revolution.

Planning all week for a trip on the weekend and then have the weather change.  This past weekend was the first weekend this year where we didn't have 20+ mph winds, or a cold front move through.  Naturally it was Mother's Day weekend.

Your first choice the weather and the wind.  It sucks to plan a fishing trip months in advance especially when it involves flying to your destination , car rentals & boat or guide rentals/reservations and the weather throws you a curve. Especially big water systems or foreign locations. It is what it is but it still sucks.

Being on the lake, and the flies find you, in hordes.  You leave the area, pedal to metal, stop at a new area, find the same flies have hunkered down on the boat and are still with you.
