optimator Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 Would this TFO rod be considered a BFS? TAC MBR 733-1 7'3" ML 4-10 1/16-3/8 oz Fast 4 oz 1 Quote
dave Posted May 15, 2023 Posted May 15, 2023 I starting thinking in terms of true BFS and "bass" BFS, I go with rods with the low end lure weight right at 1/16 oz. 1 1 Quote
Super User Solution bulldog1935 Posted May 17, 2023 Super User Solution Posted May 17, 2023 The best I have are 1/16 to 5/8 oz. @optimator Since 1/15 oz Ned came up, this rod will cast it over 100' with several of my reels, including BFS-mod Alcance, which I have it paired with now in place of my BFS-mod Steez above. https://www.bassresource.com/fishing/finesse-101.html another example 2 1 Quote
optimator Posted May 17, 2023 Author Posted May 17, 2023 Thanks guys. It’s supposed to be here tomorrow. I’ll try one of my SLX MGL reels on it. If that doesn’t work I’ll get a Curado BFS. This will hopefully replace my ML spinning rod. 1 Quote
optimator Posted May 18, 2023 Author Posted May 18, 2023 Got the rod today. I brought in a SLX MGL to try on it. It works OK rigged up with a 1/15 ned. But not the distance I was hoping for. I will probably end up putting a Curado BFS reel on it. 2 Quote
Tatulatard Posted May 18, 2023 Posted May 18, 2023 It's a little long and probably not built with the same taper as the Japanese bfs rods. Its a ml casting rod it should work fine but take that "1/16 oz" rating with a grain of salt. Quote
optimator Posted May 18, 2023 Author Posted May 18, 2023 Like I said, I tried it and I could get a Ned out about 20-25 yards. It'll have a home in the arsenal for sure. 1 Quote

Thanks man. I played around with it more when I got home. With a 1/15 Ned and TRD bait I got it casting pretty good with my MGL. But the more I think about it I really think I’ll pick up a BFS reel for it. Since I pretty much only fish from a boat I don’t need a ton of distance, but another 10 yards or so would be better. Plus I just want another new reel… 2 Quote
