I need a braid for long distance cast, the further the better. Distance isn't usually a concern for me but might be a premium at an upcoming tournament so I'd like to have something on hand in case I'm needing to make 100+ foot cast with a light weight bait.

Take a look at Suffix Nanobraid. I had picked up a noticeable amount of distance when I switched to that.

I don't know how to separate out if it's the braid or the system, but these are my longest casters...

20 metanium on a conquest 904 - 30lb pp v2 slick

alphas tw 800s on a mc days 692M - 10lb pp v2 slick

alphas air tw on a phenix 7'1 ML - pe .8 diawa emeraldas sensor x8

22 bantam on adrena 7'6XH - 30lb pp v2 slick

Trying to guess my way out of this, I'd say the emeraldas does best.  I'd like to try it on the major craft though because I think that rod makes the pp and alphas tw 800s shine.

@bulldog1935 recommended Varivas Max Power PEx8 at some point and I finally tried it on my Tatula LT3000. This braid made me like spinning gear again. Casting distance is fantastic with 1/15oz ned heads and TRD BugZ. Even better with a Finesse TRD that doesn't catch wind like the BugZ do. I bought 16lb. It's so thin that the spool is nearly filled with backer. I topped it with 165ft of Varivas in order to get 3 runs out of the spool. It's very slick too, and remains that way, so it doesn't bite in on itself which reduces distance.

The longest casting line IMO is Gliss. I know the knot strength can be suspect but that stuff flies...

Spinning

Take a look at Berkley X-9. I have

15 and 20 on my Stradics. It's crazy long. Brian.

The longest distance I've gotten with spinning tackle and light baits is using a long rod (7 1/2 feet) and ultra-thin lines like Gliss, Power Pro Slick V2 and Xplasma Asegai in 10 pound test.

I wouldn’t trust Gliss. Best I have used is Sufix 131. It’s G-Core x13 braid. Extremely limp slick surfaced round braid. Much better than Sufix 832.

Same here.  Gliss is a very delicate line.  For me not the best overall but good for distance with no bottom contact.

Ygk or the pink Sunline (can't remember the name off hand).  The Sunline is pretty amazing casting and strong.  Ygk is good but breaks a little easier.

Cant beat Gliss for distance, but if youre lazy and dont check for abrasion or tie the right knots, you'll be sorry.  Gliss technically isnt a braid, but if you need distance its unmatched.

If you need something fast, that you can get locally x9 is pretty good.  Its not nearly as thin as it claims, but it casts and handles really well.

If you have time, then look into Varvias.  Never used it, have some on the way, but a buddy of mine whoes big into BFS and super lightweight gear has been using it for about a year and swears by it.  Ive seen him cast a trout magnet about 60 feet on a stock Curado BFS.

I've used Gliss, it cast great when new but when it starts to "fluff", it loses a ton of that advantage.

Never considered one line over another w respect to casting distance.

There's a big difference in some of them. Like I said, casting distance typically isn't an issue I'm concerned about so I stick to my tested favorites, but they're not the furthest casting and I'm aware of that. I know guys that fish clear water for spooky fish or maybe bank anglers wanting to reach further targets might have tested different types though, so I'm looking for their advice.

The single best braid I've used on spinning tackle in PE#1.2 (25-lb) is YGK BornRush.

I was zinging light lures into coast wind with it this past weekend.

Varivas 8 is a close second.  Varivas is easy to find, with a US website and Amazon store.

Florida Fishing Products Distance braid is made by Varivas, and I fished a spool 4 years.

Generally, softer FEP coatings cast better on spinning, while harder coatings resist line dig on baitcast reels.

In the finer threadline sizes, YGK finesse braids are tops.

All Japanese X-braids are made by Izanas - differences are fiber and wind density, and choice of coatings.

I'll second this. 131 is long casting, very smooth, and it handles great. Not sure if I'll buy more of it or not though, as Fins Infinity has also been very good for me. I think 131 is the better line, but Infinity isn't far behind and costs less.

I haven't tried a ton of 8 plus carrier braids but I've run Daiwa Samurai 40lb on my cranking rod (with leader) the past couple years and have been VERY happy with it. Silky smooth. Abrasion resistance isn't great but running a long leader I don't really care.

I have tried Gliss, YGK, Xplasma Asegai, etc., but the furthest casting braid line I have used is this less known Japanese Momoi Ryujin:

http://momoifishing.jp/en/products/pe#sec-ryujin

It's crazy smooth and very thin for each tensile strength, but naturally, the abrasion resistance isn't that good. It's more suitable for open water, but this line will DEFINITLY fly better than the other lines.
