I wear a long sleeve sun shirt with a built in buff - but legs and feet be damned I wear shorts and sandals without any sunscreen.

I try to cover up with clothing, but am not loving the gloves feeling while fishing. I do like my huk hooded sun shirt a lot. Also hate sunblock on my hands, I feel it transfers to lures. I use spray sunblock on any uncovered area except near my eyes. I tried the face stick of sun block, easy to apply on face but it's in my kids pool bag so I usually forget it.

On sunny days I wear a buff and a wide brim straw hat.  Arms and legs get Banana Boat with at least a 50 rating.  I reapply every couple of hours.

x2 on the Neutrogena the 70 spf or the 100 spf.  I also cover up like a Arab. Usually applied to face and neck before fishing. one coat does the trick. The Texas sun can be very brutal and figure in the reflection factor from being on the water.  It will flat out dessicate you.

I had to have a chunk (18mm x 13mm x 4mm) of Basil cell carcinoma removed from my face.  Don't think that because your young and get tanned easily that skin cancer won't get you. If you look in the mirror and see that "racoon" tan lines from your sunglasses.  Your doing damage.  The cancer just doesn't show up till your older and it can keep showing up.

I use a broad spectrum 30 SPF lotion on my face. I’m using it on my arms too, but I want to get a spray for just my arms. It only takes a dab of lotion to cover my face, but my hairy arms really soak up the lotion. I don’t like spraying my face/eyelids, lotion is much better for the face.

Sunscreen is tricky.  SPF is more marketing than science.  The SPF number is calculated against UVB rays, which are more likely to cause sunburn and tanning.  What SPF doesn't address is UVA rays, which are the ones more likely to cause skin cancer.  And sometimes a sunscreen with a higher SPF will have a higher protection against UVB, but a lower protection against UVA.  So you want to look for something with "broad spectrum protection".

There's also the concern of dangerous chemicals in sunscreen, like oxybenzone and octinoxate.  Oxybenzone and octinoxate are hormone disruptors which are not only potentially bad for you, but also bad for the fish if the sunscreen dissolves into the lake.  Sunscreen containing these chemicals are banned in many places with sensitive coral reefs like Hawaii and the Bonaire in the Caribbean because they're known to contribute to coral bleaching.  Studies suggest they also contribute to sexual dysfunction and birth defects.  While none of this has been proven in humans yet, it also hasn't been extensively studied.  So we don't know the whole story right now.  And safer alternatives are available if you don't like the gamble.

I buy Sun Bum Mineral SPF 30 lotion.  Why?  Beyond the fact that it's reef safe and broad spectrum, I have no idea.  I guess I bought it once and didn't hate it enough to switch.  I like the SPF 30 because it isn't as thick and works well enough.  I tend to sweat a lot in the summer, so it's more important that I reapply it often than I use a higher SPF and try to make it all day on one application.

All my deficiencies were brought forth well before the use of Sunscreen.

But yes, I've seen studies that echo what you posted.

Clothing. The idea of rubbing chemicals into my skin sounds equally cancer-y as burning up over and over does.

I use the same, and like it. Not real greasy and works well paired with a Tilley hat, long sleeve uv shirts and long pants.

I read a consumer reports type article a few years ago.  They tested all kinds of brands.  Surprisingly Walmart brand sunscreen scored near the top.  I've been using it since reading that.

I use the Duke Cannon standard issue "Every d**n Day" face lotion. Spf 30 I like it because it doesn't feel like a paste after you apply it.

My wife had bad skin cancer, so did my mom.  I am in the sun all the time.  My wife makes dermatology appointments for the family.   By the way, the dermatologist (who is an attractive female) checks everything!   She went through all the gears on the stick shift if you know what I mean.
I wear sun hoody, lightweight pants, gloves (when I remember), and shoes mostly.  Sometimes wear my Keen sandals, which are AWESOME!   I do have to wear a hat as I am follicly challenged.  I only use sunscreen on my beak and cheeks, and I HATE even that.   I cannot stand sunscreen.  I use the Neutrogena that Dwight mentioned above.  I used to use a dab on that was a liquid, but they don’t make it anymore.  It is coming back they say when I looked the other day.  I think it is called Ocean Potion.  It was awesome.  You just dabbed it on with a spongy tip.

I listened to some interesting information from outside magazine, I think it was something like “is sunscreen the new margarine.”

heavy sunscreen users had more skin cancer than those that didn’t use it (they theorized it was because pale people have more cases and of course pale people use more sunscreen). That and there’s never been a case of melanoma in Ethiopia

im not going to flatter myself and say I can prevent cancer, that stuff will kill ya if it wants to. Obviously some things can improve your odds like not smoking and not frying your skin, but cancer doesn’t care. I just don’t like the pain of being fried and I can’t wear long sleeves and pants and gloves and all that while fishing in summer. So I smear it on, especially the back of my red neck

The only time I use it is in the spring for the first couple of outings.  After I've gotten a little tan, I rarely bother. The exception is when I'm on vacation and I know I'll be on the water for more than five hours, then it's whatever is still in my bag from the spring.  I do use a Coppertone stick on my oversized nose and the tops of my ears though.

lol. I'm sparse on top and wear a hat almost all the time. One reason I use sunscreen on my lower face is because by early summer my face would be tanned dark and my forehead is still glow-in-the-dark white. When I have to go somewhere formal where I can't wear a hat, my forehead stands out like a beacon.

Good enough for a babies butt, good enough for my face.

I should pay more attention to sun protection but I really don’t give it that much thought. Like most here I have shirts, buff and hats I use. But what I have on that particular day is more less what I jump into when I get up.

I don’t like getting bit up. I have a couple of different protections on the boat all the time. I’ve used the Bullfrog Bug and Sunscreen for a long time and I like the Sportsman that contains deet. Late August and September can get crazy with horse flies. I keep prepare for that.

Odd ball here apparently.   I use copper tone or meijer brand.  I have a wide brim floppy hat that I wear if the wind isn't too bad otherwise it is annoying.   I try to wear long sleeves and the bufff typically stays around my neck and I get too warm quick.

Main ones I use are Blue Lizard and Think Sport.  The Think Sport is very environmentally friendly and reef safe with no BPA and other lab created chemicals.   I usually have long sleeve fishing shirt on so even though these are a bit pricey, they last  a long time.

First off I hate sun screen - all of it.

Just really dislike slathering that goop on to myself at any point.

However, I do use it religiously, but only on my face neck & Ears.

While the rest of me is cover up with sun protective clothing.

Sometimes my Buff doesn't always stay all the way up on my face,

so the sunscreen helps there.

Tried a few different ones.

Some really burn the old eyeball badly when I sweat.

Have settled on this one.

Works well north & south of the border.

Goes on in the morning before I leave the house while I'm getting dressed.

Lol.  I agree.  The sunglasses mask you get looks silly too.  The first time out this year, I didn’t have a sun hoody on and had a nice red circle from the opening in my hat burned into the back of my head.  That was from golfing, therefore no hoody.
