padlin Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 Sentencing today, 10 days in jail, 18 months probation, $2500 fine, loss of the $130k boat, and loss of fishing license for 3 years. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted May 11, 2023 Super User Posted May 11, 2023 Add a '0' to that fine and ban them for life, then I'd think it was fair. Still - rarely do cheaters like this get punished. 2 Quote

Super User ATA Posted May 11, 2023 Super User Posted May 11, 2023 The worst part is 3 years no fishing license. Now they need to do privet lakes or they are done. Quote

More than I thought it would be. Jail time is usually unheard of for fish and game violations. The fine is pretty weak. Quote

Super User gim Posted May 12, 2023 Super User Posted May 12, 2023 The bigger punishment is when these two try to rejoin society. Good luck getting a job, a date, a loan, etc in any local community. They are going to have trouble even getting a table at a restaurant or a chair at a bar without resistance. Not to mention if they have kids, sending them to school is going to be problematic too. They’re definitely gonna have to move to a completely different part of the country where they aren’t recognized. Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted May 12, 2023 Super User Posted May 12, 2023 They also forfeited a $100,000 boat. 1 Quote

Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted May 12, 2023 Global Moderator Posted May 12, 2023 One of them still has pending legal troubles stemming from knowingly giving his kid counterfeit $100 bills. The worst part is he did this after the whole cheating scandal. The dude can’t get out of his own way! Worse yet, he was dragging his own kid into it and teaching him it was ok to be a fraud and commit fraud. Quote
Super User geo g Posted May 12, 2023 Super User Posted May 12, 2023 Was that his boat, or a boat he would have won? Now losing a 100,000 boat hurts for sure. There should be a list of these cheaters, circulated throughout the country, and if your on the list you should be exempt from competing, or more important collecting any tournament money for the rest of your life. You must produce ID before collecting even a dollar of winnings. These low lifes will always be cheaters and never rehabilitated. Quote
thediscochef Posted May 12, 2023 Posted May 12, 2023 My only real question: can I have the boat? I never cheated in a walleye tournament, I swear! 1 Quote

Hardly anyone in society knows who professional or YouTube fishermen are, let alone these goof balls. We are niche. I think they'll be fine unfortunately. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 12, 2023 Global Moderator Posted May 12, 2023 These two are the most famous people in fishing, kind of sucks it blows my mind this story has gotten so much traction, like people that don’t even fish were so shocked they would stuff lead into fish at a weigh in. That’s quite literally the oldest trick in the book!!!!! People have done that for 50 years, what in the world is so shocking???? Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 12, 2023 Global Moderator Posted May 12, 2023 I guess the shocking part is the tournament director being aware enough that something just wasn’t right and decided to prove it right there in front of the field!! Good for him! I agree that there should be a national “No Fish” list that gets distributed and updated throughout the country to each states wildlife dept. When a winner is announced they can check real quick. That could work for organized trails but not so much for the local community tournaments tho Just glad they got caught and humiliated in front of everyone they know. Mike 1 Quote

Mike I’ve seen of those DNR shows where people lose their license in one state and can’t get one in others. It’s not a nation wide thing and it was for game violations but maybe they do for fish violations as well. Quote

Super User Tennessee Boy Posted May 12, 2023 Super User Posted May 12, 2023 I say take the prize money out of tournament fishing at all but the highest levels. When you wave money around you will attract thieves. It should be enough to fish for honor and fun. I’ve been saying this for 30 years and I’ve yet to find anyone that agrees with me so I realize it will never happen. Quote

The old saying rings true, money is the root of all evil and brings the worst out in most. 2 Quote
