VolFan Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 That was a long time to hold a phone up. Never understood people putting weight in fish in modern tourneys. Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted October 1, 2022 Super User Posted October 1, 2022 As a redneck in Alabama here are my thoughts after never seeing a Walleye tourney/video: What level of IQ must one have in order to weigh DEAD FISH at a tournament weigh in with weights in it's stomach....I mean you are literally a knife slice away from being caught ? I also find it sad because that's whatever circuit's AOY up until that point.....they were painted up like NASCARs, the sponsors and the circuit can't be thrilled about that. I would assume once you are caught cheating in fishing, you get the Pete Rose treatment. 3 Quote

Wonder what specific law they broke, and if it's a felony. The monetary amount I imagine will determine that as I bet it's a form of theft/fraud, and given modern day tournaments, I'd bet they are facing felonies. Imagine being a felon for a fishing tournament, they deserve everything that gets thrown at them. Quote
Revival Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 “Team of the Year”…cheating all year and finally got caught. 2 Quote
Global Moderator 12poundbass Posted October 1, 2022 Global Moderator Posted October 1, 2022 One article I read I believe was from last year highlighted their back to back wins to the tune of $306k in cash and prizes. 3 Quote

SWVABass Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Watched the video, honestly surprised it didn’t end in an all out brawl. I liked to think that folks in the outdoors had more integrity than that. Quote
Revival Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 I seen another close up video and those filets next to those weights were pulled out of the fish too. 1 Quote

Junger Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 I don't watch much Walleye tournament fishing, is it normal to let entrants weigh in dead fish? 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted October 1, 2022 Super User Posted October 1, 2022 They had 25 lbs without the added weight . 1 Quote
GRiver Posted October 1, 2022 Posted October 1, 2022 Seeing stuff like that sickens me. What is happening to people? Quote
Super User TOXIC Posted October 1, 2022 Super User Posted October 1, 2022 I know some locals and heard they have a long list of wins over the past few years.. turns my stomach. 1 Quote
Super User Koz Posted October 1, 2022 Super User Posted October 1, 2022 Here's more video showing the weights being cut out of the fish: https://www.barstoolsports.com/blog/3436292/video-huge-fishing-competition-scandal These guys won hundreds of thousands of dollars and at least one boat in previous tournaments. 1 Quote

TriStateBassin106 Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 This would never go down peacefully in a bass tournament, professional or local clubs. Those cheaters are lucky someone or a few didn't put their hands on them. Also this should be a felony, it's technically theft. A LOT of people got cheated out of money on that circuit! Quote

Most of them die before they reach the weigh in. Many walleye tournaments now do an immediate catch, measure/weigh, photo, and release format. 3 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted October 2, 2022 Super User Posted October 2, 2022 Too bad they didn't get put in the hospital. In olden days they would cut your hands off for stealing a loaf of bread, now you get community service for stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars. What a great "deterrent". Pretty pathetic. Quote
