Super User gim Posted May 9, 2023 Super User Posted May 9, 2023 So I bought a limited release version of a Megabass Vision 110 off ebay this winter, and I just saw there was no split ring attached to it. How big of an issue is this? I normally direct tie these to my line. I have split rings, and could easily put one on there, but maybe this one is designed to be fished without it? Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted May 9, 2023 Super User Posted May 9, 2023 Do you mean split ring? 1 Quote
Super User FishTank Posted May 9, 2023 Super User Posted May 9, 2023 I had this as well on a JDM only One Ten and from what I can tell some Japanese anglers prefer to use snaps with out the o-ring. On the other hand, I have ordered several others from Japan that have the oring on the bait. Quote

Solution Valvodinho Posted May 9, 2023 Solution Posted May 9, 2023 Because Japanese anglers tend to use snaps they don't have a split ring on certain lures such as limited JDM Vision 110s. You'll also notice the middle treble is barbless. If it concerns you that much throw a split ring on it, I tend not to fret too much though. 1 Quote
JediAmoeba Posted May 11, 2023 Posted May 11, 2023 I use vmc crankbait snaps for all my jerkbaiting needs - one of the first things I do is take all the split rings off. 2 Quote

Being that this one doesn't have a split ring, I think I will try a snap instead and see how that goes. I've never opened a jerk bait that didn't have one, so it was just odd when I did this time. I intend to try it on Saturday. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted May 11, 2023 Super User Posted May 11, 2023 Last week on Erie Rob & I were fishing the same bait. After netting a double we were comparing bait action boat side. I always use a snap attached to the split ring on this particular bait. Rob had attached his snap to the line tie bypassing the split ring. Two light taps of my rod caused the bait to veer off 90 degrees to the left then 90 degrees to the right for a whole 180 movement. When Rob tried two light taps his bait was not nearly as animated only moving a little left & right. When he reattached the snap to the split ring it mimicked mine. When in doubt to use the split ring or not you need to try it both ways to determine which gives the best action. If the bait comes with a split ring I attach to it with a snap. If it comes without a ring I attach to the line tie. I’m assuming they know best from testing if they want a split ring or not. Quote
