When we were dating, I would take her wade fishing in the river.( Got to carry her across a swampy area to hard bottom) ? She wasnt afraid  of gators, snakes , etc. She nearly outfished me on bream once she got the hang of it. We loved to camp and fish too.

She got pretty good at bass fishing too. But one day… She hooked the” Bass of the Lake”. It was huge . She had it. It was towing us in the jon boat. … And it just came off. She’s only fished once with me  since then…?

You might know I was single for last 8 years, But last week I went to fishing with a lady, that I was out for third date :) so we start real relationship beside the lake while fishing and she told me she will never come between me and fishing and I told her she can be with me anytime I am fishing. Just wanted to announce that last few days here, and I taught here is the best place me replying to big boss comment to announce that. Now I have long way to teach her everything haha.... It will be a journey to make her catch her first bass but I am looking forward to it. The good thing she had a pond with minnow and catfish and stream in her house so I'll be catfishing anytime I like in privet pond ? . I am planning to see if I can put some baby bass in it. Lets see.

My wife out fished me 4-0 on our first date so im no help here

The first year we were together we kept a rolling tally how many bass each one of us caught per outing. I didn’t carry that into year number two.

In my defense, I was taking her fish off and running a hand control trolling motor so I didn’t get as much fishing time as her. ?

Mrs B goes occasionally.  She doesn't like to fish for hours and hours, and gets bored easily.  One of her Sisters lives on the lake I fish often.  I'll pick her up at her Sisters house, then take her back when she get's bored.   She backlashes my baitcasters by just looking at them.  I hate spinning equipment but she's good with it.  She caught one Bass over 4 pounds last year.

Through 7 years of dating surf, fly, and bass fishing was a big part of our activities.  She grew up fishing on her pap's boat and her brother became my fishing partner.  Thinking about it now, I guess she's the reason I went from having a bunch of fly rods and various spinning rods to garage overflowing with rods, tackle, and a boat.

Marriage, kids, and life really slowed down our fishing time together for the time being.  I can't get her to sign up to fish a tournament with me, but I'm really looking forward to the day it happens.  She would disagree, but I think her methodical approach pared my competitiveness will make us a team to be reckoned with.

Keep 'em active with all kinds of fishing. They love the trips, the adventure...it may involve a little shopping lol. When I go down to the Keys to fish, for example, I always plan a little Key West excursion to Duval Street lol. Works like a charm! They eventually come around and will get involved with all kinds of species!

My girlfriend won’t come fishing with me. She says she doesn’t like the fact that I’m “tricking the fish”. That’s fine with me though. Fishing is “my time”.

I agree with this. You need the whole child and the methodical one to make a good team.

If your wife wants to fish then teach her to fish, if she doesn't Don’t try!

Bobbers are for kids, your wife is a adult treat her like one of your friends and teach to bass fish.

Lots of good advice above. I'll just add, be patient, don't over coach, and keep it lighthearted and fun.

My bestest fishin buddy.

My wife and I are going in a little get away this weekend. I am taking my boat to the near by little lake. I am trying to get my wife to fish a little. I have let her reel in bass a few times after I have hooked them. She enjoyed it. I want to start her off just bobber watching. She’s some what against it. More so the fact “ she doesn’t know how” I want to take the time to teach her so when she goes out on the boat it could be more enjoyable for her. She’s also not really the outdoors type but, cause on the boat because I enjoy doing it. Kind of like I watch her TV shows because she likes them.

Has anyone had any luck with doing this? Tips? Tricks? Or is it just a lost cause?

I also don’t care if she doesn’t ever get passed the bobber watching stage. I am completely fine with that.

Great mindset. It sounds like your relationship has good bones. This is something i cound never get my ex to do. But the one time i did get her to go, she enjoyed it. It definitely would be good if she could catch something, but beyond that make it fun/relaxing. Make some good snacks. Encourage her to bring a book. An adult beverge might be good. Make it more of a picnic on a boat than fishing. And stay positive!!!

A weekend getaway in the outdoors for someone who doesn’t enjoy It and only goes because you want to does not sound like a fun weekend.
My advice…you stick to fishing, she  sticks to her hobby, and you all find something you LOVE to do together for weekend getaways.

I won't matter how many fish you catch or how much fun you have, if you don't have a bathroom plan.  Just sayin.

At 70 I need a plan too!

She enjoys the get away and quiet aspects of it you don’t get anywhere else. She might not be the “outdoors type” but, she’d much rather watch a group of deer eating than someone walking down the street. She’d much rather walk the dog down a trail letting him explore then down a sidewalk. She enjoys the boat for the most part. I’m just trying to find her another aspect of enjoyment to it.

Mine likes to go when there's good weather and smallmouth involved.  She's pretty dangerous with a Ned rig.

Buy one of these unisex urinals.  They are available at most drug stores.   The removable funnel attachment makes it work for males and females. I keep one in my boat.  Can't fish without it.  ?

I have one, but a different design.  I stopped balancing on the side of the boat when I hit 65, especially with all those gators in our waters.  Never leave home without it!  Thanks Captain, it was so much easier when we were in our 30's, 40's, and 50's!  Lol
