optimator Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 I know most here will disagree with me but I’d add a MH/H spinning rod. I don’t use mine a lot, but it’s my go to for nighttime fishing. Worms, wacky worms, jigs. I’ve even used it for topwater. 1 Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted May 3, 2023 Super User Posted May 3, 2023 What line are you using on your Diablo? I also use my Diablo for swim jigs. I have 16# fluoro on it. But if I wanna fish/rip the swim jig through heavier weeds, I use 40# braid on my 7'3 H/F Powell Naked Series rod. LOVE this rod. Right now I have a Lew's KVD reel on it, and I replaced the stock knobs with the Lew's/Winn round knobs. When I get caught in some grass, instead of always ripping the jig out, I'll just keep cranking that handle and the swim jig will just bulldoze it's way through. It's my 4x4 swim jig setup. 2 Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted May 3, 2023 Super User Posted May 3, 2023 7'2 MH/F Expride or 7'2 H Zodias are great rods that you can do a ton of stuff with as well. Also, the new 2023 Daiwa Tatula Elite Randy Howell 7' ML casting rod is a fun rod to throw squarebills/med-diving cranks/lipless on. I think it's work great for poppers as well. 1 Quote
stratos4me Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 The Expride 6'10" medium is the only rod I have two of. Great for all treble hook baits from 1/4-3/4oz except deep divers. For me, it handled an 8 with ease, and it still cast small baits like a champ. Also great for a wacky senko and I love shimano reel seats. 1 Quote

I have two of the older GLX rods and tend to like them better than the new but some of that is nostalgia on my part. I think it's the cork grip. To me, the 843C and 844C are the no brainers of the line up but I feel the new version is a step down from the old and the new IMX is an improvement over the previous version. A couple of suggestions on rods.. G.Loomis IMX Pro 966CBR Deep Flex- bombs medium and big cranks Megabass Valkyrie 7'1'' Heavy- you can do just about anything with this rod. I use it for Magdrafts, cranks, jigs, topwater. Spiral wrapped guides for long casts. Megabass P5 Windbuster- Another do all rod but spinning. Megabass P5 Kasumi Six Eleven- Do all finesse rod. Great for small 1/4oz cranks and jerkbaits. I have also used it for small finesse swimbaits, small jigs and small Texas rigged plastic. 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted May 3, 2023 Super User Posted May 3, 2023 I hear ya. I’m kicking on a 2nd Victory rod. Leaning toward the VTS71MF. Have touched it numerous time but have not pulled the trigger. YET. When I retired last year a couple of work buddies bought me a Victory VTS73MXF. I almost sold it or was gonna trade it because I didn’t think I’d ever get use to the long, longer, fore grip length. Fished it off and on, was still up in the air about it. Fished the bay (brackish) twice with it later in the season and caught everything going with it using bottom contact baits. Boated a lot of fish. That Was all it took to get use to the longer fore grip. I feel the 7’1” Med. Fast will get used hard with the soft plastics I used. Like the bit slower tip to it. I’m now a fan to the longer fore grip. Was easy to get use to when you have days with a decent bite going on. You don’t think, over think about it. Have two gift cards burning a hole in my pocket. Don’t need another rod but would like to have a pair of Victory’s. 1 Quote

I don’t know the exact year but it has a serial number so 2019 or newer. I can’t really explain why I don’t prefer It. It’s super nice. It’s a little more moderate than I like for sure. I don’t know. It’s just my least favorite and I need to sell one to try a new one. My most used rod by far is the Rebellion. I just love throwing Weightless Texas rigged senkos and to me it’s perfect for that. I also really like my Champ 684c and I haven’t even used It yet. Lol. Just feels like the perfect weight/balance/length for pitching (I’m 5’6”). 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted May 3, 2023 Super User Posted May 3, 2023 I would add a 6’6”-6’8” M-XF with a 8:1 reel for a dedicated topwater set up. I always have at least one dedicated topwater rig in the boat. 1 Quote

St. Croix AXC68MXF is a great topwater stick, but I also use a 6’6” MF Fenwick HMG that I really like. For reels I like a Tatula SV TW XS but also use a Pflueger President XT that throws light poppers really well. Line is always 10lb Trilene XL for trebled topwaters. 2 Quote
KP Duty Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 I want a new rod...one that won't make me sick....one that won't make me crash my car, or make me feel 3 feet thick. ? 1 Quote

My 6'10" finesse jig is a great topwater but I wanted just a little shorter, maybe a touch more backbone, same light tip. I grabbed a Cara 6'8" "medium heavy" and threw a revo SX 8:1 on it with some 14 lb sunline supernatural mono. I haven't fished it yet but I have cast it in the pool and worked a dawg back with it. Its going to be a great topwater setup. I'll maybe throw jerkbaits on it also. It feels partway between the finesse jig and the head turner. I don't think its going to be the rod to make 40+ yard casts across a big flat as the length will hold it back a little there. But for fishing down the bank its sweet. 1 Quote
badfish79 Posted May 3, 2023 Posted May 3, 2023 I assume by the tier of the spinning rods, you dont use them too often. If you dont know what holes you need to fill in your casting arsenal, maybe just upgrade your spinning rods? 1 Quote

Something nice dedicated to wacky senko maybe Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted May 3, 2023 Super User Posted May 3, 2023 No hesitation, I would immediately buy a Kistler Helium LMH. Today. 7 or 7'3....your choice. I spend a lot of time pitching and casting t-rig with 1/8 weight. This rod is in my hands nearly as much as next 10 rods combined. I don't know your Rebellion, but Helium treats me right. 2 Quote

I love and use mine for the same thing. Cbump, my wacky rod is a Tatula spinning 610 M/XF . It works great for that application. 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted May 3, 2023 Super User Posted May 3, 2023 Take a look at Edge Black widow rods, very light weight and excellent lure/strike feedback. Your spinning combos are entry level at best. Tom 1 Quote

Especially since summer is coming and I like to fish wacky a lot for suspended fish. Quote

Super User Darth-Baiter Posted May 4, 2023 Super User Posted May 4, 2023 i think i would get a WindBuster just to see why that rod is out of stock so often. i think they are available now. i drop shot so often that i can almost justify going with a high end DS rod. i like 20lb braid to a 10lb leader, with my worms weedless texas style, so it should work.
