Humminbird help

I'm placing an order for a 898c SI Friday and I'm curious what other Humminbird model thats not quite so expensive I could order for the bow to connect the two units? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. I'm not sure I want to spend the extra money yet on a second unit but if if some really good ideas come my way then I may not be able to resist. I have a Lowrance X51 on the bow now but its not what I want.

I've got a Humminbird 728 on the bow, but, other than being able to interface with your 898, it's not that much of an upgrade.

At some point, I plan to put a 798 on the bow.  The 728 is 300 bucks list price vs the 1100 bucks for the 798.  If the cost of the 798 doesn't turn you off, I'd make do with the Lowrance unit, until I was ready to spring for the 798, or another 898.

Do some "window shopping" on the internet.  Check out which units have the features that best suit your wants/needs, and go from there. 

One suggestion.  Don't settle for less than what you really want.  You'll have spent a few hundred on something that you won't like. 

Better to wait until you can get what you really want, even if you have to save your pennies and nickels until you can pay for it.

There are two ways to connect the 898 to another Humminbird unit.

Some of the 2011 700 series models have the ethernet connection and all of the combo units can be connected with Interlink.

One company advertized this week some of the 2010 798 units for about $850 and they are selling fast.

Thanks guys, I'm doing some more research. I just placed my order for the 898c si. Feel like I got a pretty good deal for $1299.00, most places I found had them listed at $1499. I'm going to hold off for a little bit longer and go ahead and get another 800 series for the bow. I just need to put in a few more hours of OT at work first.

I have a 788CI at the bow Interlinked to a 798CI SI at the console.  I would love to have one with down imaging at the bow.

I am considering mounting my 1197 at the console on a ram mount that can be turned around to face the bow.  I'd like to switch to a TM mounted transducer when at the bow and switch back to the transom transducer when running and scanning.
