LunkerJunky Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 I am looking at buying a new 7 foot medium spinning rod, and one of the ones I looked at was the Dobyns Fury. I have 2 of the Fury casting rods in medium heavy and heavy and I swear by them, but I have never held the spinning version in hand before. I was looking at several other well liked mediums, but I am drawn to the Fury rods because of my experience with the casting version. I was wondering if you guys had ever tried the spinning one yourselves and what were your thoughts on them? Quote

I have the 703SF and the 702SF Spend the extra $20 and get St Croix Mojo Bass I've already upgraded my 703SF to a Mojo 7'1 M/F - next on the list is changing out the 702SF for a Mojo 6'10" ML/XF 1 Quote
Valvodinho Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 I have the 703SF Fury and don't care for it very much. I absolutely love my other Dobyns rods (granted they are all champion xps), but I think you have better spinning rod options other than the Fury Quote
FrnkNsteen Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 I really like my Dobyns casting rods,... And have quite a few of them, but I dont own one single Dobyns spinning rod. The main reason for my dislike is the grips. I hate a spinning rod with the threads at the front of the grip so your are holding bare threads. I much prefer a spinning rod with a foregrip, or at least one that has hidden threads. My spinning rod collection is made up of Fenwick, Falcon, Daiwa, and Phenix Feather. All of which have foregrips, threads at the bottom of the grip or at least hidden threads Quote

GetFishorDieTryin Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 Fished a bunch of a buddys Dobyns, Fury and lower $ Champ spinning rods, rest were casting. The Champ was nice, action was a little slower then I was used to, but rod loaded and performed well. I just couldn't get past the lack of a locking nut on either of them. If the reel seat was rear locking it wouldnt be nearly as much of an issue. IMO I think you can get a better rod for the $, and if you add another $20 you could get a Tatula which IMO blows Fury away. Honestly, I would take Bass X over Fury. Quote

When I got mine - Digitaka's price was $107...now it's up to $116, and no tax or shipping charge really helps. Quote
Super User Bird Posted May 2, 2023 Super User Posted May 2, 2023 All my Dobyns are casting but can't imagine any dropoff for spinning. Dobyns fury is a standard hard to beat. Imo Quote
Striper9 Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 I stopped by a dicks sporting goods store and they had a bunch of mojo bass rods. I haven’t held any of these rods since the previous gen and am looking to upgrade for next season. I was unpleasantly surprised to see they stopped using Fuji reel seats. they put some cheap sea guide reel seat on. Even though the mojo are lighter than the fury’s and I’m not the biggest fan or the no foregrip on the fury I’ll stick with the fury. The rod overall felt “cheaper” to me 1 Quote
jdr99a Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 I’ve got fury casting rods and a 703sf spinning rod. I like the casting rods but think the spinning rods feel a bit too tip heavy for some reason. Quote
