When I got the boat,I noticed there was a spot where someone had placed silicone. Its not very large at all.The other day when I was out I noticed it starting to seep a little bit of water. Not much, was still able to stay out all day.The tear is maybe 1/4 inch.

Theres a welding shop locally that can weld aluminum. Would it be advisable to take it by to see if they can repair this tear.Or would this just cause more problems? Would I be better off with trying to put some J-B Weld on it to see if that will fix it?

I believe JB weld makes a product just for aluminum jon boats and other things that are going to be in the water. I bought some last year for a small tear in my jon boat and it hasn't leaked water since.

JB Weld is a quality product. Should work just fine.

Several years ago I must have run over a rock and got a small hole in the bottom of my Jon Boat. When I got the boat home I went under the boat and applied a small squirt of silicone. When it dried I put a piece of duct tape over the silicone patch just to hold it in place temporarily. My intention was to have the boat welded at the end of the season. I still haven't touched it, and it still doesn't leak.

From bubble gum to welding, there are a lot of ways to patch a small hole.

One warning on JB Weld. From what I was told by a welder, once you use it you make it impossible for him to weld it. So...if you use it, it had better work. That being said, it is a lot cheaper than a welder.

Also, consider some brazing rods. there are some good ones out there. Though if you go that route, get some practice first...

If you want to do it yourself HTS-2000 is the way to go. It's stronger than aluminum and melts at a lower temperature. Very easy to use and is a permanent repair.

Thanks...THAT was the stuff I used, definitely good stuff.
