Super User Catt Posted May 1, 2023 Super User Posted May 1, 2023 Barometric pressure to me is kinda like water temperatures. I'm aware of it but I'm going fishing anyway. It's my job everyday to find the bass & then get them to bite. I don't spend a lot of time on things I can't control. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted May 1, 2023 Super User Posted May 1, 2023 Can’t control weather and never will, but we can be aware of what in the forecast. Low pressure generally means good bass fishing where I live, high pressure means high winds and tough fishing conditions. Low pressure system rotates counter clockwise bring clouds and onshore southwest light wind. High pressure system rotates clockwise bringing northeast high winds down through the canyons where our reservoirs are located creating havoc with 30-70 mph wind for a few days. Both low and high pressure systems move west to east and just wait for highs to clear out or lows to move in. Cold front is the day in between or front of the high pressure system following the low and most unpredictable day. Can’t catch bass at home so be aware of weather conditions and plan for it. This may sound like an '0le wives tale but has proven itself. Buddy and I were heading to the lake yesterday morning and he said " this ain't gonna be a good day of fishing because all the cows are lying down ". We caught 2 fish in 6 hours with overcast and very light wind. I may just buy a cow and plan around that. I live in a very rural area with lots of farms. I have asked several farmers what it mean when the cows are lying down out in the field. The answer has always been the same....."It means they are tired." Gotta' love farmers wisdom. 2 Quote
Kirtley Howe Posted May 1, 2023 Posted May 1, 2023 I pay very little attention to barometric pressure, solar or lunar tables, wind direction, or frontal conditions. Other than checking to make sure it is reasonably safe to be out there (I don't fish in thunderstorms, and I don't take a boat out in dangerous weather), I go fishing when I can. WHILE fishing, I try to be aware of what the weather is and how it affects what the fish want for a presentation. I use that for future reference. Basically, I feel the best time to go fishing is WHEN YOU CAN go fishing. I do realize that it is different for competitive fishing, but I only compete with the fish and myself, so it just does not matter to me. 2 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted May 1, 2023 Super User Posted May 1, 2023 Cloud cover is very important in fishing and a barometer can help you determine if it’s cloudy….or you can just look up. ? 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted May 2, 2023 Super User Posted May 2, 2023 It's illegal for weathermen in Tennessee to look up or out the window. 6 Quote
