Smirak Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 I’m looking at building an ultralight combo to add to the arsenal. I’m trying to keep it around $150 and from TW (I have GCs for TW). what you got? Kevin Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted April 28, 2023 Super User Posted April 28, 2023 A little over that price point, but I'd recommend a Dobyns Fury 661/702 or St Croix Bass-X 610MXF paired with a Shimano Sahara 1000 during the 15% off Memorial Day sale at TW. The extra $30-40 would be well worth it IMO. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted April 28, 2023 Super User Posted April 28, 2023 Problem is that TW doesn't carry UL rods....best you can hope for is a Light. Saying that - my Daiwa Procyon 7' L/F does a bang-up job on very light lures https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Daiwa_Procyon_Spinning_Rods/descpage-PYS.html Pair that with a good 1000 size spinning reel - Daiwa Revros LT will do the job and bring you in right about your price point. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Daiwa_Revros_LT_Spinning_Reels/descpage-RRLT.html 1 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted April 28, 2023 Super User Posted April 28, 2023 I'll second the Diawa Revros 1000 size reel. Smooth and dependable. St. Croix Triumph light spin might work for a rod. Quote
Eric 26 Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I’m going to offer up if you want a true ultralight as MnFisher pointed out Tackle Warehouse doesn’t carry rods for that niche. My suggestion would and will be a Daiwa Legalis 1000 ($79.99) from Tackle Warehouse and a Panfish Elite rod from Bass Pro Shop also ($79.99) In whatever length suits you. I have the 6’-8” ultralight and a 7’-2” light powered rods and I cannot recommend them enough which I do quite often on this site, the rods are built above their price imho. 1 Quote
QED Posted April 29, 2023 Posted April 29, 2023 I’ve got a several high end graphite U/L cork handled spinning rods and several graphite/short aluminum pistol grip casting rods that I use most often. Unfortunately, in today’s environment you just can’t get this stuff except possibly custom which presents its own problems (e.g., ideal blank and component availability). Love them and would rather fight than switch! ? Quote
