Attainable goal for 2023

Not really feeling the attainable part, as it seems to imply a bit more probability than either of the below 'goals' might hold. 

So, I'd really like to put my friend Big Fish Jeff on his new PB Brown Bass in the next week or two.  Needs to be over 6 lbs.  WITH the caveat off doing it in something other than a Polar Plunge.   

And from the real world of make believe, 5 Smallmouth for 30 lb in a day

would be a real feather in my HUK Cap.

Yeah, I know fishers at your level don't care about quantity. I'm embarrassed to admit that I do, that I enjoy a busy morning or evening. However, I like catching the big gals too...well, big for me, but small for you! ?

I catch 90% of my fish on 3 inch paddletails. I’ve recently started bringing more in with jigs. Going to concentrate on jigs this year. The goal is to be able to match water, hatch, speed, depth, to be able to reliably fish jigs no matter conditions.

I'd like to surpass, or match my PB Largemouth, but I doubt that can happen now, where I fish.  

 

My first goal?  To have fun.  I'm not in a contest, and I don't have anything to prove.   

 

I've said before, I'd like to catch a NC state record Spotted bass.  The current record is 6 pounds, 5 ounces.   My PB Spot is 4 pounds 15 ounces (but it was in SC by a mile or so).  My biggest NC Spotted bass is 4 pounds, 4 ounces.   A new PB spotted bass is attainable,  perhaps a NC state record Spot is too.   I don't know if I'd turn in a state record.  It would be cool having my name in the record book but I think it would be a hassle also.

I just want to get out more. 
Last year was a busy one, between being super busy at work, and doing a bunch of projects around the house, I didn’t get out near as much as I wanted to. This year, that’s gonna change. Even if it means just a couple hours on the lake across the road from me after dinner, or an hour walking the river bank behind the house with a frog rod and a beer, I’m going to stretch my string mor often this season!

I'd like to win my fishing contest at work again.  Last year I did not win it, I came in second.  I won it the previous year (2021).

1.  Work less, and fish more.  Not even close to achieving that goal so far this year, but I have high hopes for next month.

2.   Catch a bass over 11 pounds.  Where I live that could happen on any cast.  

3.   Kick the Bait Monkey to the curb, and  become more proficient with the lures I already have.

I will work on this goal, after I receive my next order from Tackle Warehouse.

Same as every year at least one DD.  I have not had one for the last twenty years now, but that is the goal every year.  Been close a bunch of times but no cigar!

I talked about this with @TnRiver46 yesterday. I think there's a decent chance I run into a 8-9lber this year in Texas. Lot of big fish around here, and I don't spend time on a lake unless it has the capacity to produce very large fish. I've got one over 7 so far.

 

So my goal is one bass in the 8-9lb range. As I get more experience in Texas, my expectations may go up during however long I'm here.

2: New green bass PB, currently sits at 5lb 4oz

3: Learn my electronics

No reason to be embarrassed, it's simply a matter of preference. Targeting big fish doesn't necessarily exclude catching numbers either. That 3.5" Sweet Craw I spend so much time pitching catches lots, but it's also my #1 big fish producer. #2 is a chatterbait at night. It also catches numbers, but consistently catches bigger than average fish, including my PB smalljaws.

I guess I should have said at my age (75) I don’t care about numbers any more because I have experienced those special days where the numbers just never stop coming. It was and is fun no doubt. Every angler should experience those special days because that experience is what helps you love your fishing time that much more. Thanks for the compliment.

My goal started early in February before saltwater stripers started on March 1... Have more fun. 

I was getting to tied up in catching fish a certain way, a certain size/amount/pattern or it wasn't fun. 

 

I have invited more people out to have a good time on the water, I still catch fish, still wont throw a shad for stripers or live bait. Fresh water, I have fished the lakes I hate near by, impromptu trolled for stocked trout, had a fun day with crappie in a kayak with 2 buddies in their kayaks (I dislike kayak fishing very much). Things I would not have done last year. Headed to Champlain in a month, I swore I had a 100 fish day last year, I need to buy a counter, but this year, id like a whole mess of smallies with my dad.

That would be any bass bigger than 8.02 lb at this point. Yeah, my PB was barely enough to get me into the 8-9 range. Honestly, my lifetime goal is a 10 pounder, which is a very big bass for SC.
