Attainable goal for 2023

If the stars align, what's your attainable goal(s) for 2023? 

 

By attainable, I mean that there might be a few DD bass in Maine, ancient and wise, but I'm not going to catch them. However, I could, in 2023, have:

 

1. a hundred-bass day

 

2. catch a 25 lb. bag. 

 

I'd be thrilled with either, but I'm hoping for both.

Mine always seems to be something like getting better with my electronics, but I really want to this year. I need to scan more and interpret more, and then catch fish.

My number one goal is to catch a new domestic PB, specifically a NY bass in the 7lb class. My last PB came from 2017, when I got my current 6-3 NY PB. A 7lb fish in NY is no small task, but I know at least a couple lakes I fish hold bass that large. I say domestic PB because I don’t plan on breaking my all time PB of 9-13 from Mexico.

     Totally agree with InfantryMP! Need/want to learn how to use my electronics more efficiently. I spend too much time fishing and way to few moments learning. I also will try for the 100 fish day, but the places I fish would mean I could get to 100, but most would be dinks. (Me and a buddy hit 100 fish Tuesday but big fish was 16".) That was my third over 50 day this year.

     But my main goal for 2023 is to reach the 5lb Smallie mark. I have two 4lb plus and gobs of 3lb plus but no fivers. It's tough to get a 5lb river fish but that's my goal just the same. Also I will be cheering on all my BR friends in their endeavors! 

     One goal that will be attained shortly is running power out to my dock. I will have a ceiling fan comforting me this summer so I can avoid even more farmwork! Pulled the wire over the water yesterday and gonna hook up the electrical boxes today.

Fish more often and learn more about the lakes I fish.

Try casting this year.  Have used spinning 100% of the time all my life.

Learn to use PE line in different situations.

Be more patient.  Less moving and more trying different baits / techniques when the top 3 don’t work.

Land one of the big bass that schooled me badly last year.

And lastly, the hardest one… stay out of the stores and websites…..I have enough gear.  Not really attainable, but a worthy goal.

Really hoping I can crack 10 lbs this year with largemouth.  Got 9.1 in the pre-spawn and I'm feeling like I can do it!

any trip to these areas, but timing is everything. Generally the best part of spring ends

in a couple of weeks, then your odds improve dramatically in the fall after October 15.

Thanks so much!!! I would like to. That is very gracious but it's what I have come to expect from everyone on this site! I would assume that the best days are midweek when the crowds are down. Wednesdays are best for me. Just let me know and I'm heading that way!

Awesome thread Katie, and I love both of those goals of yours.   

 

For me it's the same goal I set in Aug' 22 when I started back fishing....catch a DD on my childhood and current homelake.   

 

I've had tunnel vision on this goal since about September, it consumes all of my free time, I go to bed literally every single night thinking about this fish.   It feels so good to pursue a goal as hard as you can, I sure hope I can achieve my lifelong dream, but if I can't the journey up until has been amazing.  

 

Fishing has always been about goals for me, and I imagine many/most other anglers.....there is few things in life that taste as sweet as when you realize a goal you worked really hard for.  

 

At the core of the narcotic feeling of Bass fishing is this goal/work/achieve deal imho.    I'm going to cry if I catch the white whale, or at least I really hope I do.

It's gonna happen with you, you got big fish mojo seriously.

 

Certain folks just catch bigger fish, maybe they fish slower, fish differently, whatever it is, some folks consistently catch big fish compared to their peers.   I'd put you in this group.

That's 100% happening Bob, and I can't wait for the pics!    

 

The electronics is an excellent goal, especially considering you got a scope.  That very well could lead to your number 1 goal being achieved.

This is the year of the 7lb Bass in Yank land......both you and @T-Billy are getting that 7+.

 

You are too honest, there is no way I'm calling a 9-13 a 9-13......I'd put her in the livewell with a dozen threadfins if I had too ?

7# LM, 48" muskie. Both are attainable. Neither is easily attainable. Odds are better for getting the muskie.

Learn more on techniques I have yet to be confident in. Upgrade my 10ft bass raider with new parts (mounts electronics carpet flooring etc) catch plenty of more fish and definitely catch plenty of bigger fish, With the way spring has been so far. 2023 will be a massive upgrade over my 2022 season. When 2022 came to an end I immediately told myself I'm going to come out swinging next year, I didn't do a lot of things right last year and I could've been a better fisherman at times.

 

My biggest failure of the 2022 season is I had an empty bag at my biggest tournament of the year in June. That bothered me for the rest of the season. I'm not gonna get into it specifically but the lake it was on historically has been good to me, I've won the tournament there 7 times and every year I always had a bag filled with something, not having anything at all kinda spooked me lol. 

 

 

I also did the biggest restocking of a fishing season ever for me this past winter, probably 400 worth of reloading equipment.

There’s a reason there’s no replicas on my wall.  My goals remain the same every year…..a double digit largemouth and a smallmouth over 7 both on artificials.  I’ve got a lot of citation awards here in Virginia for largemouth but none were a double digit.  At the new lake we went to for the first time last year in Florida, my double digit largemouth may just be reachable.  I’m heading to St Clair for the 20th year and that 7+ smallie is somewhere in that lake.

I want to enjoy fishing more. I put too much pressure on myself to catch a lot of fish and the biggest fish I can. Catch more fish then they guy next to me.  Even more pressure when I fished for musky. Which is great to have goals but, I’ve lost sight in just enjoying it all. I’ve always felt like less of a fisherman if I couldn’t go out there and kill it all the time.

I try for Double Digit every time I go out, got a 7 and change a few years ago. I’m just going to have fun fishing while trying, and try and fish more. 
I hope everyone meets their goals, and has blast doing it.

I'm changing my submission to the marginally possible goals for 2023 category ~

Not really feeling the attainable part, as it seems to imply a bit more probability than either of the below 'goals' might hold. 

So, I'd really like to put my friend Big Fish Jeff on his new PB Brown Bass in the next week or two.  Needs to be over 6 lbs.  WITH the caveat off doing it in something other than a Polar Plunge.   

And from the real world of make believe, 5 Smallmouth for 30 lb in a day

would be a real feather in my HUK Cap.

We put on the scale 3 times, and I told my buddy to jump up and down to rock the boat to see if that would make it flash 10-0, but it never moved from 9-13 ?

Keeping it simple this year.

Get out more often - as last year it was only 6 times, that should easily be attainable.

New LM-PB - given my current is under 5# and there are 7# in the local lakes...this is a real possibility.

I'd like to get a 17"+ smallie on the fly rod, and a 21"+ in general.  I may have broken the 21" mark before but I didn't really start carrying a bump board regularly until last year.
