EricB Posted May 17, 2011 Posted May 17, 2011 Thanks Red, I think I will come up with something to attach to the second TM. Eric Quote
Red Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 Yeah I bet you could attach a plate of some sort to it. Then in the event that you need the spare motor you could just remove the plate and be on your way. Like I said, I welded mine together. I bet you could make one just like it if you had a few self tapping screws. Quote
EricB Posted May 18, 2011 Posted May 18, 2011 I'm sure I'll come up with something the spinning around. Quote
cBooms@SML Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 any of you guys have an outboard on the back? would that be able to act as a rudder? Quote
Red Posted May 20, 2011 Posted May 20, 2011 It might help some, I really think you need some sort of large flat surface for it to truly be effective. Quote
throwback Posted May 22, 2011 Posted May 22, 2011 Ya'll know where to get a good cover for these boats? Quote
Pond fisher Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Ya'll know where to get a good cover for these boats? Bass Pro has the covers in stock. Ken Quote
bigdog321 Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 Ya'll know where to get a good cover for these boats? If you look at the one from bass pro you better read the comments. People are talking about them only lasting one year and they are correct ,I had the same problem. Quote

The reviews are bad on that cover at BPS and at other vendors that sell the same tarp. Quote
throwback Posted May 23, 2011 Posted May 23, 2011 a tarp I want to leave it on the water and cover it, which is difficult to do with a tarp. Quote
cBooms@SML Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 found out something new with the pelicans. they dont do too well with large motors. the area around the metal transom plate began to bend when i put the motor at about half throttle and it was a merc 3.3hp. i went back to the dock and took everything but a life jacket out and tried it again and it was much better. i guess you cant have anything weighing down the front. has a decent size wake to it too when you get it goin. i should probably still do more tests with the motor and stuff before i come to a final consensus about whether or not gas outboards are good for these boats. Midnight Splash2 Posted June 6, 2011 Posted June 6, 2011 I wouldn't recommend it on the 8 ft. My 55lb trolling motor seems to push it when I go straight to the highest gear. Quote
twors Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Got a new 8 foot Bass Baby on order and wondering about how much trolling motor to buy. Minn Kota will be the brand and it will be something in the Traxxis lineup. I know from experience that I want variable speed but haven't came to a solid conclusion on wether I'd be overkill with a 55lb thrust motor or to save a hundred bucks and opt for the 45lb model. My main lake to fish is about 175 acres so I do have some water to cover. Quote
Daniel Rodriguez Posted June 15, 2011 Posted June 15, 2011 Your not supposed to go straight to 5 because the torque of the prop will pull the motor right off the transom, that happens on my 40 lb minn kota as well. I would have no problem putting a 55lb on an 8ft Pelican..I have a 40lb on my 10 ft Bass Raider and it's very slow and i fish lakes that are 50 acres or less and it takes a while to get around those due to the low speeds..I may get a 2 hp honda 4 stroke at some point to address the problem.. omthezone Posted June 18, 2011 Posted June 18, 2011 Absolutely loving this thread. I have been considering one of those little plastic assassins for a while now. They look more comfortable than my yak has been. So how durable are these little bad boys? Do they have a lifespan? Quote

It is in great shape. Quote
Red Posted June 19, 2011 Posted June 19, 2011 I fish an 8,000 acres lake with a 30lb minn kota, just sayin. If your looking to cover water quickly I don't think this style boat is your best bet. Quote
Owasco Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 I'm curious as to what fish finders you all have on your raiders. I'm looking to get one for my 10 footer and I found a cheapo Lowrance x-51 at gander for $59.99. I am considering it but I am worried that the vertical pixels are too low at 160. Most of what I fish is anywhere from 5-20 feet of water but I do occasionally take it on a couple of deeper lakes at around 70 feet of water. I'm sure it would show detail fine up to 20' but I am worried about it @ 70'. What do you all have? Quote

I bought an extra transducer & mounting bracket for far less than a decent entry level unit. Quote
jaaron01 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Wanting to get one of these little bass boats, but haven't been able to find anything here in Nebraska for less that an arm & leg. Did finally find a "Coleman Perch Pontoon Boat 8ft " at Dicks Sporting Goods for $499.00. Been through CG looking as well, but everything seems beat up pretty bad. Anyone heard of this brand? Seems almost like all the others like "Buster Boats, Pelican, Bass Buggy, etc.etc. just about $200.00 less. Anyway enjoy looking at everyones modifications, and looking forward to posting some of my own. Quote

If your looking to cover water quickly I don't think this style boat is your best bet. How much surface area do you generally cover on this size of lake? What time duration do you spend covering said water? What areas do you generally stay in (coves, points, main channel)? Do you ever hit lake belton or stillhouse? Quote
jaaron01 Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 Looking at getting a trolling motor for the 8ft Coleman Perch Pontoon, looks just like a pelican 8ft. Cabela's has the Min Kota Endura c2 Trolling motor (34lb thrust ) for 109.00, or they have the M Kota T34 Thruster Trolling Motor for $89.99. Anyone have an opinion on these? Quote
