I tow a camper with my tacoma and i want to take my Pelican with me on camping trips but with the overhang of the 10ft boat in my 6ft bed it will interfere with my camper while towing. I'm thinking of building a PVC rack that i can set in the bed then set my boat on top and secure it all with ratchet straps to the factory cargo hooks that's mounted in the bed. When i'm not using the boat i can simply lift the rack out of the bed of my truck and store it in my garage with the boat. I don't want a bolt on metal type rack, i never liked the looks of those. I want something that's easily removable when i'm not transporting my boat.  When I tow my bumper-pull camper I also often times will have my bass raider 10e in the bed of my truck.  What I did was built a cross member for the rear of the bed that has uprights that sit in the two rear post holes.  This causes the rear of the boat to be raised enough to not interfere with the camper.  I will jack-knife the trailer before the boat touches it!  Works like a charm and it allows me to put down the trail gate to pack gear beneath the rear of the boat. If needed I know I have a picture of the setup somewhere. Quote

What size bed on your truck? my truck is a tacoma with the 6ft bed. This is a pic of my truck & camper. If possible post a pic of your set up, thanks. I'm planning on hooking my truck up to my camper to help determine the best method of transporting my boat while towing. Â Quote
atomicchicken Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Yeah my trucks bed is 6 1/2'. Â I was prepared to bring it up higher if i had to. Â It's not going anywhere. Â Made from pressure treated wood. Â The crossmember is angled so that it mates with the bottom of the boat at the same angle. Â Like I said, It supports the boat with the tailgate down so I can load cargo under it. Â 1 Quote
68dave Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Thanks for the pic. I'm gonna hook up my trailer and measure to see how much clearance i have. Quote

I know they have dry wells for valuables, so that's a plus. here's a review  1 Quote

Bigger  lakes you would want to move up to a 45-55lb thrust. My TM is mounted up front with a rudder in the back. I find that's the best setup for me alone or with a partner. Good luck with the boat, enjoy! What did you use for the blade part? (Or whatever you call it) looks like wood. I used a piece of plexiglass and shattered most of it off today. Needing something more durable. Quote

Jon W Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 Thanks TommyX Â I did. Â Picked it up yesterday. Â No holes, was one spot that was already fixed very well. He had modded two drain plugs already. He had actually already put down plywood and instead of the sliding seats he installed perm 13 inch pedestals into the plywood. With two seats and the full thing it is kinda heavy, not sure if I like that, but I can always by the normal seat mounts if I don't like them once on the water. Â Once I get it washed up I will post some pics. 1 Quote

GoCougs14 Posted March 19, 2016 Posted March 19, 2016 Well Im definitely in need of some advice. I have a 12' predator, which is similar to the bass raider. Anyways alot of the time Ive had to resort to dragging it, akd sure enough on the back end by the transdom theres a small 2" crack that is slowly filling up. I have no clue how to patch it it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote

From what i've seen & read they seem to work good for these boats. One guy used a piece of plywood covered in indoor/outdoor carpeting as his deck for the trailer. He had eyelets bolted to each corner for securing the boat with ratchet straps. If i remember correctly he mentioned he had like only $300 invested into this trailer. It looked nice and fit the boat well. 7 hours ago, GoCougs14 said: Well Im definitely in need of some advice. I have a 12' predator, which is similar to the bass raider. I dont beleive its a bass raider. Its about 12 ft long but it is pelican brand. Its shaped a bit a bit differently with a flat bottom. I got it for $200, so I figured its a good deal, but the thing has had some pretty deep scratches in it, and it looks to have been drug around a fair amount. If one of the scratches were to open up or fracture, what would I be able to do to fix it. The first idea I had was to put a piece of sheet metal over it then use duct sealant to seal it up(worked in hvac for awhile haha). When dragging it on the ground it mostly lays even, but most of the scratches are in the front corner and the back corner. Anything I can do to strengthen  it up so I can drag it without fear of scratching it?  I know the best option would be to get a trailer, but its out of the option. And when Im loading it and unloading a 12' boat thats about 4' wide, it almost forsure has to get drug across concrete a little bit.  Thanks! I would use fiberglass cloth and resin and hardener.  I have used it in the past and it worked very well. Quote
johnkn Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Pelican states that the Ram-x hulls can only be properly repaired by (poly/plastic) welding.  I would question if even fiberglass resin would adhere long term, and it's pretty aggressive stuff. Quote

johnkn Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 There's a review from February on that site saying that he used it to repair a Pelican boat and it worked well. Â Curious how he said that it has held up for a year yet he left the review last month. Â Good luck... Quote
livemusic Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Does anyone know when stores might be apt to put a Pelican Bass Raider on sale? Does anyone think that there is a 'superior' brand/model of this type boat? Is Pelican Bass Raider it? I have read this entire thread over a year's time (90% of it last year) and don't want to read the entire thread again! Thanks! I have an old Bass Tracker and it works fine but if I could get a better design, maybe a little bit lighter, I would sell mine. Quote

Dick's always has a boating sale in the spring, I got $100 off mine during the sale, and they gave me another 10% off for opening a Dicks credit card. I believe that this sale was late April/early May Quote
S. Sass Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I don't know if it's a "better" design but I have a the Pond Prowler they sell these at Bass Pro. IF they were going to be on sale I bet you just missed it. They did have a $100 kickback to open a Bass Pro CC though. Not sure there may be other deals. Quote
68dave Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I have yet another question. I've read many pages here but haven't seen this mentioned. I have my 10e stored in my 1 car garage on top of my 4x4 atv's. I want to store it hanging from the cross beams of my steel carport above my pick up. Anybody here store their boat by hanging it? And if so how? Thanks. Quote

Papa S Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Hi gang. I'm a new owner of a used Pond Prowler. I've read through most of this forum and it is fantastic. What a great community! What is everyone using as their anchor? Just wondering what type, what size and how everyone is storing it in their "tub" considering our limited space. Thanks for any help or comments (or pictures) Quote

Thanks for any help or comments (or pictures) There may be mentions in this thread, not sure, but there probably is somewhere on this forum... if you fish mostly shallow water, you can use a 'power pole' type of pole (except it's not powered, lol) that you push into the lake bottom and is secured to your boat. But you would be limited to pretty shallow water. 1 Quote

But you would be limited to pretty shallow water. I personally use a 8lb, plastic coated mushroom anchor with 25ft of line for my 10e raider. I drilled/bolted/anchored 2 cleats into each of my seat frames and tie off the anchor to them. Never had a problem with the anchor slipping so far. Google "Â DIY shallow anchor system" and you will get a lot of ideas of what people have used and how they made their systems. some pretty interesting ideas out there. Quote
S. Sass Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Currently I use the mushroom anchor I think its a 8lb as well its the one like they sell at Walmart. I just tie it off to the factory mounted cleats currently. I did see someone I think way back in this thread who had Lift and Lock Anchor Control brackets on their boat. They had one in the front and one in back. I want to add these as I think it would make it way easier than leaning over while trying to pull the anchor up. I have had several times it had got caught up pretty good and was no fun to pull that hard at the edge of the boat. Also you don't have to bring the anchor actually into the boat making a mess. And having one on each end I think will be real nice to slow or stop the boat from turning on ya.  Quote
