Bomber7 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 I like that. I have been keeping my eye open for an old broken trolling motor but have been unlucky so far. I will try to remember this if I locate the trolling motor. I like the idea of being able to just raise the rudder if needed instead of removing it as we do now. Hey lilsweeper - I purchased a MK TM bracket off e-bay for $30 - if you don't mind spending that much - it works great for my rudder - I sure there are pictures of it on this thread but you'll have to search for them. If not let me know and I'll try to repost them. Actually I'm thinking of doing a video of all the mods I've done to my boat since I first got it 2 years ago. Quote
Bomber7 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 question.. just got my seat brackets in from academy sports. one of them is missing the black end cap on the footing. are these critical to keeping the bracket in the seat tracks? academy is telling me to contact pelican, just wondering if it's necessary. I have a Sun Dolphin Sportsmen so I think the seat bases are different but what I did to mine was cut an old garden hose and slipped it over the seat rails - it makes it slide easier and doesn't dig into the plastic boat. The Sun Dolphin seat rails are solid steal so after one or two times out when I first got it I noticed it was digging in and cutting it up so what not much but I thought long term I would have problems. So I did the hose trick and it works great. Hope this is helpful. Quote
SFM186 Posted July 17, 2015 Posted July 17, 2015 great tip, thanks bomber. i think i'll use it a bit as-is and see if i run into any problems like that. if i do, i've got just the right piece of hose to cut.. i knew if i kept it, it would come in handy for something! and the wife calls me a pack rat... Or i have had one bookmarked probably since January on www.northlandmarine.com for $35 + $7.99 shipping. Same price you see. I just haven't pulled the trigger. Quote
BSFisher Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 BS, The two wires attach to the battery posts. You then attach your trolling motor directly to the battery in the rear, or buy a male plug to match the built in female plug in the front and use that set up for the trolling motor to be up front (better option). Ok, did a little more research on it. From my understanding the wiring is just to place the fuse in-circuit for too many amps. Can't I just buy one of these circuit breakers instead, since most people have problems with the one that comes with the boat. Sorry for the lack of understanding, Electrical wiring isn't my strong suit! http://www.trollingmotors.net/motorguide-50-amp-breaker-with-cable Quote
BSFisher Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 On another topic, I wanted to see what everybody recommended on a fish finder. I've never owned or use one, but definitely want to get one for my Bass Raider. I've heard the hummingbird fishin buddy is nice, but im not sold yet. Quote

I'm running a Lowrance Elite 3x with a handheld gps beside it. I would like them combined but I had the gps already and did not have the money for the Elite 4 so I have what I have. It has worked out alright for me. I can also say that I can testify that the FF has helped me catch fish. Here's how I have them mounted: Quote
nimbus2065 Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 The 3x is an awesome unit I've seen them on clearance at Walmart for as low as $99 I only went with the 4 cause I got It for $200 off lowrance factory site with the 83/200 - 455/800 transducer because the chirp was coming out Quote
BSFisher Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 Seems like the 3x could be the way to go. Does anybody have any experience with the Humminbird PMAX 197C DI? It says it's a close contender to it, but is better at distinguishing fish. Quote
Reyn Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 This is my fishfinder set up on my 10E; I recently purchased a Humminbird Helix 5 Si GPS from TheDigitalOasis.com for $444.95 and free shipping (you can get a less expensive Helix without side imaging). I mounted it to a Ram Mount specific to the Helix and attached it to the the plastick bar by the right front rod holder. No holes needed to be drilled through the hull. The yellow do hickel on the wire harness is a waterproof fuse holder for a 3 amp fuse that Humminbird does not supply, but they tell you that you must use a 3 amp fuse or bye bye warrantee. 1 Quote
Lost-my-bait Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 Finally took my boat out for its maiden voyage. Learned several things: 1. Streamline the equipment. Was over cautious and took to much stuff making the trip cramped and not very usable. 2. I don't know how to read a fish finder. Yup, I hooked it correctly (pretty sure). I was able to get what seemed like accurate depth readings, but I never saw anything that looked like it should be a fish... Also never got a bite in 3 hrs of boating around. (So results matched the sonar) 3. Find a new lake.... I was at lake medina near San Antonio near the dam. Water measured 60 to 102ft on average. Was not what I planned on. I was hoping to find a small number inlet to anchor in and fish. Will try lake Calaveras or lake Bastrop next. Overall the boat handled well and I was happy, but I will need to adjust some things to work for me. Quote
lilphill23 Posted July 20, 2015 Posted July 20, 2015 was just curious as to what gauge the built in wiring is. If anybody happens to know. Quote

DaveVE Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 This has to be the best thread ever. I love the added 7" riser. It took me a few minutes to get the feeling down. It wasn't exactly tippy but sitting up higher felt a little different. Now I don't even notice. Left the rear seat alone as my wife is only 5'1 and she wouldn't be able to reach the floor. I love this little boat so much that I robbed the Hummingbird off my Ranger bass boat until I can afford another. Added some Bass Pro cheapo rod straps and a battery tray mainly to keep it from sliding around while transporting. I installed two drain plugs in the pontoons to help with any rain water and also I was curious of the condition of the foam. My boat is older so I was half expecting foam mush but it is surprisingly good. Just ordered a small 12v battery for my FF. The best part of this whole deal is that my wife loves this boat as well so this new obsession has a green light. 1 Quote
pointhunter75 Posted July 22, 2015 Posted July 22, 2015 Yep, the riser makes all the difference in the world for us tall people. Glad you like it. Now you can easily spin around when you need to. 1 Quote
DaveVE Posted July 23, 2015 Posted July 23, 2015 Also, the Lowrance Elite 3x is $90 on Amazon right now. Quote

After you use it give an update. Be curios how it preforms. Have an Lowerance elite 7 hdi with all the goodies, its kinda hard to get set up. Great once you get used to it tho. Quote
No Thanks I'll Bass Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 How long would I be able to be out fishing in one of these with just a trolling motor? And are there things that you can have on board to keep your battery charged if it were to die? I am thinking about buying one here in the next couple months and was just wondering if I would need to get a small outboard to go with it. Don't want to spend that kind of money if I don't have to. Also, would I be able to take it out on a good sized lake? Quote

It last for about 8 hours with medium use 1 Quote
wnspain Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I have an endura 50 and I can tell you that operation at max setting will severely affect the duration of charge. I usually don't operate it above 3 now and when I'm actually fishing, I use 1 and 2. I can fish longer than my butt can tolerate. Just picked up a MG Bulldog w foot control, haven't had it long enough to evaluate power consumption. 2 Quote
DaveVE Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I use a Minn Kota Endura 40 and after 3-4 hours of pretty heavy running I still have 2/3 charge on a 27 battery. Like wnspain said I only use 1-2 speeds while fishing though. I do push it to 4-5 when going to spots if they aren't real far from me. 1 Quote
