Getfit74 Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Finally got around to making a rudder. Pretty simple really. Cut the ends off an old trolling motor that didn't work. Cut a piece of sheet metal to size, and bolted it in to the shaft. I got a Pond Prowler and love it all except on those windy days get blown all over. Think I'm gonna find an old donor trolling motor mount and make one of these. Quote
jjohnson114 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 im sure this has been asked many times throughout this post . but i just recently bought my 10e bass raider. What exaclty does the rudder do? does it make that big a difference with the wind? Quote
jjohnson114 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Finally picked up my 10E. Put in the carpeted floor like several folks recommended. It made it much better. In my opinion, everyone should do this! What did you use to keep the carpet down? Quote
jjohnson114 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 Here are some pics of my rig...The Bass Tub ;D Full shot loaded and ready to go to the lake. Here is the front light, clamps on, battery (D cell) operated. Rear light, alligator clips to battery. It also folds down out of the way. Graph Seat with Riser I welded up at work and aftermarket padded seat. Life vest strapped under it. Three rods straped in on one side, three is about the max per side. Tangles alot though. Last is the floor with the plywood I added. Someday this will get carpet and the BigFoot switch for the motor will be screwed in place. I highly recommend the plywood, makes a world of difference when standing. All my wires just lay on the floor, if I had a trailer they would be strapped neatly, but I have to remove everything for storage. There ya go, still looking for any horizontal rod storage ideas. idk if your still reading this post. just got my own pelican. been on my brothers alot. love these boats. can you tell me more about that Bigfoot switch?? also anyluck with tournaments with these boats? im really intested. TNReb Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 What did you use to keep the carpet down? 1/4" plywood. Carpet is glued and stapled on the underside. Quote
TNReb Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I took my boat out yesterday evening for the first time since putting the rudder on it. Wow - what a difference. The boat never tried to spin - it was soooo much easier to control. Quote
justwhit83 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I took my boat out yesterday evening for the firs. time since putting the rudder on it. Wow - what a difference. The boat never tried to spin - it was soooo much easier to control. Dang. That is a slick rudder but I was really hoping to hear that it didn't make much of a difference. Lol I guess I will have to get my crap together and make a rudder. Quote
pointhunter75 Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I want a rudder that can raise up if hitting something. That's how I'm gonna do it when i make one. With my motor there is no room left to clamp one though. Gotta figure that out... Quote

Lol I guess I will have to get my crap together and make a rudder. I had been putting it off - because I am just not good at making stuff like that. It really couldn't have been any easier. If I can do it - anyone can. It's just a matter of setting aside an hour in a day to make yourself do it. Quote
georgetown bassin Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 here is my setup I had to move the battery box to the front because the rub rail was underwater while running the gas motor I usually fish by myself and without anyone in the front its really stern heavy let me know what you guys think. 1 Quote

pointhunter75 Posted May 31, 2014 Posted May 31, 2014 The big foot switch is just a momentary switch. Set your speed and hold it down to go then let off to stop. It has a plastic flip over bar that holds it down for long trolls. Quote

Iceman71 Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Does anyone know where I can pick up a second seat frame for my Pelican 10E? I bought it used and it only had on seat. Pelican wants $65 for just the frame. Is there any place cheaper out there? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Quote
Reyn Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 Just seen one in a Bass Pro catalog. I'm not sure of the price, but I would guess 50% cheaper. Only the rails looked square. Quote
Reyn Posted June 1, 2014 Posted June 1, 2014 For you folks that made a rudder for the your Raider, what dimensions did you find worked best for the flat part of the rudder? Quote
tfultz Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Academysports.com sells em. Think there fairly cheap to! Seat brackets. Quote
TNReb Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Just curious.. what sort of tackle boxes/bags does everyone use? I have a Plano Guide Serios 1444 that I've had for several years. I like it, but it just doesn't have enough space for all of my crankbaits, jigs, etc. I'm considering going with two separate boxes/bags - one for hard baits and one for plastics. Quote
jjohnson114 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 How do you guys feel about the bigfoot switch? ive been reading up on them but not sue if its worth putting one on a 10e bass raider? Any thoughts? Thanks. Quote
pointhunter75 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 They're awesome jJohnson! I use a milk crate under my seat with multiple Plano boxes in it. Perfect setup. Quote
jjohnson114 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 What makes it such a good addition to the boat? so that you arent leaning forward all the time? is it easy to install? Quote

I have one and it is great for trolling or if you need to cut the motor fast while standing. Iceman71 Posted June 2, 2014 Posted June 2, 2014 Academysports.com sells em. Think there fairly cheap to! Seat brackets. I looked on there site Saturday and they said they were currently unavailable for online purchase. Talked to one of their reps and they said they couldn't help. So I looked again yesterday and they were available so I ordered one and a seat. So hopefully I will get them this week and be fishing this weekend. Thanks for all your suggestions. Quote
