jaaron01 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I decided before I bought a bigger trolling motor I would try one of these High Performance Props and see how it works on the Minn Kota. I know I've ready several different things on them, good, and some bad about overheating the motor. My warrently is out anyway, so thought for 29.00 I would give it a shot and see how it works. Quote

I would be really interested when you get one if it helps with reverse thrust. My only real complaint with my MK40 is reverse is totally useless even on high. Quote
jaaron01 Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 I agree with you on the Reverse thrust. You got to put it on high, then wait and pray it kicks in !!!!! Must be something to due with the pitch on the prop that causes it to be almost useless in reverse. I've read different things about these Kipawa props, some folks swear by them, others swear at them. I thought before I chunked out 200-250 bucks for a bigger trolling motor I would give this a shot. It'll be a while before I get to try her out, due to everything being frozen up here. Sure wish I could get up the nerve to Ice Fish, but for this Southern boy, 20 years of "Don't go out on the frozen Pond" does something to your mind!! Thanks Mom. Quote
Aggie5 Posted January 9, 2013 Posted January 9, 2013 Any of you guys know any good fishing spots around the brandon, fl area? Quote
Nashua Nev Posted January 14, 2013 Posted January 14, 2013 i made a wheel/axle set fom 2 used 20 inch rear bicycle tires. i popped out the bearing seats and put i 3/4 inch threaded rod 5 inches wider than my jon boat. i secured the wheels with double nuts and washers to keep them on and also covered rod between the wheels with pvp water pipe so it would spin on the threaded rod nd not did into my jon boat or canoe at all. i secure it to the canoe and jon boat with 2 tie downs. total cost under 20 bucks. i used 2 tires i picked up from the dump and bought the threaed rod, nuts ,washers and pvc pipe from aubuchon hardware. if i remember i wll post a pic. used it all season long even in soft sand. loaded with trolling motor and battery and all the gear. tfultz Posted January 15, 2013 Posted January 15, 2013 I have one of these boats. Have added some extras to it. Having trouble uploading pics on here. It can be seen on youtube, my channel is tfultz100 or type in Pelican Bass Raider 10E you'll find it! Quote
wagn Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 Wow. I'm amazed that this thread is still going. I had to sell my tracker a couple of years ago and have been basically out of bass fishing since then. I've decided to start over by pulling my old 10 foot Pelican out and rebuilding her into a mini-bass hunting machine. I found this thread while googling a way to add a rudder to my boat. I read the whole thing from page 48 to page 1 before realizing that I was the first person to respond to the original question back in 2010. I haven't been on the site in over a year, but am glad to be back and am blown away by all of the mods that people have done to their bass raiders. Keep up the great work! I'm definitely going to be using some of these in my own design. 2 Quote

B-rad Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 Hello everyone, I have been enjoying this thread for just a week now. When I found this thread I was cruisin the web to find out more info about the boat that I found on craigslist for $200. I am impressed on all the mods that I have seen on here, to say the least. So after reading your alls feed back on this boat and its versatility of the mods that I could do, I then decided to purchase this boat. I paid 175 and he threw in a battery. I am now looking for a trolling motor for this bad boy. Fun times! So thanks again for the fantastic mods and I look forward to being a part of this group. Quote
Pondkiller Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 I hear you. Love this post too. Up here in the north lands i'll work on my ice house mods in the summer and enjoy the mod on my pelican from this winter. starting to get the itch to see how my new system works out. For now I'll keep drilling holes in the ice. Quote
Big Bassman Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I too have one of these little boats and use it for farm pond fishin. In fact, I am sitting in it for my avatar to the left. It's perfect for those small waters. Put it in the back of my pickup with all my goodies and can 4 wheel drive back to those boonie hard to reach ponds where the big guy's are just waitin for me! I have never modified mine, but have gotten many great ideas from this thread and will have to install a few of them. Thanks! 1 Quote
B-rad Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Hello all, I am looking for a way to mount my oar to the side or my boat. I have an 8' sun dolphin sportsman which is very similar to a pelican. I saw on you tube where a guy used a really slick looking black clips for his. I wonder if any body has any ideas on what I could use. Thanks. Quote

I found several clips that you find when you look at kayaks and mods you find for these types of boats. i settled on pressure clips that allow you to store the oars without worrying about breaking off the clips. I will look around but i think i have a picture i can share of the set I used. 1 Quote

Dwill817 Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Hey guys! This is my first post. I have a little 8ft bass buggy, it's not a pelican bass raider, but it's the same concept! I bought it, a trolling motor, and marine battery for $185!! I have a few questions: 1) It didn't come with seats. Any homemade ideas? Pictures? 2) The PO painted the top white and it's starting to come off. Would it hurt to strip the paint off with a chemical? What chemicals? Should i just respray it and be done? 3) When mounting stuff to the hull can I just silicone to screws and be done? Or do I need to get some rubber cement or something? Quote
Zoff Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Not sure about the other stuff but if the paint is coming off... flaking so to speak... a pressure washer should do the trick and not hurt the plastic. 1 Quote
tnriverluver Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 After you get the paint off try to locate some Krylon Fusion paint. It is designed to adhear to plastic. Other Co's may make something similar now also. Quote
Sontag1 Posted February 22, 2013 Posted February 22, 2013 I signed up to the Forum just so I could post to this thread. You guys have done some great mods on your Raiders. I have a Bass Hound 10.2 which is similar in that it is a two man boat. I have seen several posts about putting bedliner on these boats or trying to paint them and I wanted to pass along some information. Most of these plastic boats are made from HDPE (High Density Polyethelyne). You will need to contact your manufacture to find out for sure, but It is probably HDPE. There is very little that will stick to HDPE (paint or adhesives). Some epoxy paints will, but they are expensive! You can paint your boat if you want to spend the money. There are also some heat treatments that will make HDPE more "sticky" so that the spray paints for plastics will really stick to it. Use your Google-Fu and I am sure you can find plenty of info for painting HDPE. When I got my boat, it had a big rip in the front / middle of the hull. The Bass Hound has a more traditional hull style vs the pontoon style of the Raider. The rip was about 9" long and it was about 1/2" wide (at its widest point). I have no idea how this damage was done, but needless to say, I got a great deal on my little boat. So I started reading up on how to fix it. I spent about 2 weeks reading and learning as much as I could about Welding Plastic. If you have never heard of plastic welding, I suggest you learn a little about it. I have fixed several things since my boat repair. Most DIY projects are not too difficult. Here is a link to some good info: http://www.wegenerwelding.com/pdf/09_Guidelines.pdf I got my plastic welding kit from Harbor Freight Tools. They have several to choose from, but I bought the cheapest one and it worked fine. It looks like a large soldering iron with a flat head. I have also used a regular old soldering iron for repairing small items. Like fixing a cracked lense on my boat trailer lights. So anyway...back to the boat. It turns out that milk jugs are made from HDPE. I cut up several and used them as my welding rods. It took about 7 hours for me to make the permenant repair. I methodically melted the new plastic to the old and closed the rip in the hull. Then using the welding iron, I melted a piece of metal screen into the plastic repair. Finally I melted a new layer of plastic over the entire repair. It worked great! I was able to salvage the $1200 boat that I was able to get for $200! The hull is green and has a nice big white spot where I was able to fix it. No one can see it except the fish, and they don't mind! So if you damage your Raider, you can fix it yourself! I will see if I can find any pictures to post. I am not sure if I still have them. Quote

tnriverluver Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Picked up a great deal on 798 HD SI. Looking to mount it using a RAM. How do i secure the base "securely"? You can get the double sided adhesive pads for the ram mount bases plus a few screws and it should be there for good. Quote

dlh2 Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 The 10' Bass Raider I bought back in 2002 has a drain plug in back end floor. That's the best feature of the boat. I keep my boat in the water tied off to my dock year round and since the floor is above water level, it's self bailing. I never put the plug in, even when using the boat...the floor is always above water level even with 2 adults in the boat. I notice the new boats don't have a drain plug. I can't believe they discontinued that feature. If I was buying a new one today, I would retrofit it with a drain plug. Quote
flacrawdad23 Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I am thinking about buying either a Pelican Bass Raider 10' 3" boat or a Basstender 11' 3" boat. Any thoughts between the two of them? I found a nice Basstender loaded for sale. This is what comes with the boat, Fully rigged out and ready to go. Basstender 11.2 boat fully decked out with many tackle storage compartments, Aerated live-well, Bilge pump, running lights, in deck retractable rod straps, 2 fold down seats, 1 butt seat with extendable pole, anchor, fire extinguisher, oar, 2 life vests, Garmin fish finder with speed and temps, Minn-Kota 36lb Thrust up front with on-off switch mounted to the deck, New Minn-Kota 55 lb 12V for the back with in-line circuit breaker, this motor has only been used 2 times. These 2 motors are great for fishing electric only lakes, this boat moves. 2 12v batteries reading upper 12's when charged. Trailer with 2 spares and heavy duty guide rails, not the ones shown in thephotos, these have been upgraded. Trailer is in fantastic condition, almost like new. This is a great rig for 2 guys, very stable boat. Does this sound like a good deal vs the Pelican Bass Raider? thanks for any comments. Quote
jaaron01 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 How much are they asking for everything? Just make sure and get all the paperwork and that you will be able to transfer everything over into your name. Here in Nebraska is tough to do anything without extensive paperwork. I've got a trailer that I own, but had to have my buddy on the Iowa side register it in Iowa under his name, as Nebraska wouldn't register it without a vin number, unless I paid a couple hundred for bonding. In iowa it was $20.00 and a done deal. Quote
