I have a 8ft'r myself, and wouldn't trade it for the world. Couple small lakes here in nebraska are so shallow in some parts that most ordinary boats can't even get into the head waters. I was out the other morning, and had pulled the trolling motor and rudder up and was just sculling through the weeds catching bass left and right. I noticed other big bass boats watching me but would even get close to were I was fishing.

When I put my oar down to see how deep I was, there was only about 8-10 inches of water beneath me and I was about 100 ft from the bank. Needless to say I was proud of my little boat, as I didn't even notice how shallow it was. Awesome feeling!!!!

Anyone have a one man water scamp?...thought you might like to see my "boat collection"...consists of 2 one person water scamps 79" long and an 8ft pelican for bigger waters.

Who makes the Water Scamp? I never heard of it.

they were one of the first companies out there to make the small boats. I had a bantam 3x back in the 90's i loved that thing it had a livewell bewteen the 2 seats

Alright, So I have a Bass Raider 10E, that I have been using to go fishing. I really like it. I have a Tohatsu 3.5 four stroke on the back. But with that I have one issue, it seems like too much power for the boat. Not speed wise, but it starts to bend the mount on the boat. I would say a good amount at even half throttle. It moves it along at half throttle, but I would love to be able to use all the power. lol. Is there any way that I could brace the back mount. Im sure there is somebody out there that has done it.

Thanks.

water scamp was made in SE Kansas...not sure of the years but I think ceased in the early/mid 1980s. A lot of them are still around...they made both one man and two man. Had real handles placed where they should be so you could lift them. The one person is great for small ponds since thye can be carried quite a long way due to the light weight.

we seem to have a lot of used one show up in the sw MO area...probably since they were made over in Kansas

Come on, nobody knows of a way to brace the back motor mount in any way?

I've never thought of putting an engine on the back of mine. Mainly because I sit up front in the boat and wouldnt want to be switching seats from running the motor to running the trolling motor. I'm just getting a bigger Trolling motor, to move a little faster. I have a 34lb now, but moving up to a 50lb in the fall/spring. I predict around Santa Claus time!!!1

I'm no engineer, but we're talking about a plastic boat here. If we were talking about bracing a material that doesn't flex, that would be different. I wouldn't exceed what Pelican says as far as gas outboard limit.

Im no Engineer either, but I am halfway to my bachelors in an engineering degree. So im gonna tell you that it CAN be done. All I want to do is stiffen up the motor mount, as it is a plastic boat, and yes it does bend. I would prefer it did not. Ill get it done. Ill let you know how it works out.

I have no probs with a 4hp Johnson Seahorse...?

I really dont have any problems with my Tohatsu 3.5 persay, but I just feel a little uncomfortable with it bending at the amount that it is right now. The top is staying where it is and not moving, but the bottom of the mount is bending inwards. the weak point.

Good luck. I don't know why you're asking then.

My suggestion is put down a plywood floor and run two pieces of metal as braces from the floor to the transom if it has a metal covered transom like my basshunter. Screwed into each plywood and transom of course. Should help a little at least.

I am asking because this is a forum full of people who own the same boat. I was collecting data to see if anybody had any suggestions, and do a little brainstorming. This is how engineers formulate ideas, and make educated decisions.

Thats why I was asking.

I would have a metal saddle bent to fit over the transom plate to provide support on both sides for the motor to mount onto, then run braces as suggested to a full plywood floor.

Yeah Im not necessarily trying to make a speed boat. and when I drag race kayakers with my 3.5 I do win. But not sure I wanna enter any races anytime soon.

the boat is rated for a 3.5 but even that seems like it is too much power to the mount. in my opinion. it bends pretty good, but thats alright, ill still hold wide open full throttle. no big deal.

Do you have a stainless plate over the transom? Mine came with one on the front too. With my 4HP, it doesn't flex...

I've been thinking of getting the 10E model, but have a few questions. It seems fine for regular fishing with 2 people, but I'm thinking of joining a small boat club and would like to fish tournaments out of it. They would be on small lakes and ponds. My questions are:

Will it hold 2 people, 2 batteries, a cooler with pump (used as a livewell), trolling motor and gear?

Or would I be better of with a 10-12' aluminum jon boat?

Thanks.

A 10 to 12 foot jon boat will be much less stable and probably less load capacity unless you can find a wide bottom one. As an example my 8 ft Basshunter has a capacity of 475lbs. A 10 ft Tracker shows a capacity of 320lbs and their 12ft just 335lbs.

I have no trouble with similar gear you mentioned. One Marine battery, a 4hp Johnson motor, Fish Saver in a cooler connected to a motorcycle battery too...

me and a buddy fish out of my 10E and it does real good not cramped at all and real stable. We have a battery n trolling motor n 2 tackle bags n cooler in mine at all times
